In motor magazine few months ago the topic was ford axing the v8 again.
Rod Barret said that they wanted to know if the people where attached to the power of the v8 or the v8 itself . So basically if the turbo outsells the v8 by a large margin this will probly happen again. |

Definitely the motor itself.
My thinking is, awesome low end torque and sound, but the power isn't that crash hot.

The warble, the sole, the side to side rock and role.
The fact they are not a taxi engine with boost also makes them attractive to me. As a pimply teenager / P plate driver I always said one day I;ll own an 8. Now that Ive had a five of them, my ambition was warranted given the experience of ownership. I would not personally go for a turbo six, if they (the 8's) become unavailable 'new' from Ford Aus, then I'll just stick to second hand versions.

As long as its a FORD thats all that really matters.
Mind you I do really miss the torque of the old windsor. |

Whilst I'm sure the power of a turbo six is awesome, the noise that comes from my V8 is what I'm in it for. Plus a few mods here and there gets the ol' Windsor up and running pretty well too.

Power. Whether it's a 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16. Inline, V, Boxer, W, Rotary, Turbo, N/A, Supercharged... It's the result that matters.

Gotta say for the V8 itself, mainly the sound. I also love the low down torque of a good V8, outright power isn't as important.
But I'd be happy with a Turbo 6 or 4 as long as it's got good low down torque characteristics.

Having finally driven the FG turbo yesterday, its the noise....the FG T is grunty as, but the V8 has character. In a world where we're governed 50-60km/h speed limits, the V8 would entertain me consistently, except maybe at the lights ;)

It really depends on what you are looking for.
There is nothing like the sound of a V8. You can't get the gutteral roar that you get from a V8 from a T6. The T6 might be a bit quicker than a GT but on the street it doesn't really matter. Taking off from the lights is not like taking off on a drag strip. Someone usually jumps and the difference between a T6 and a GT is micro under these circumstances. I love my V8's. I love driving them and I love cruising with the window down just listening to them. There are many cars out there that will beat most V8's off the line but who really cares. I just let them all go (mostly). My vote is for the V8. Cheers Keith

i think it's the noise, it's raw, brutal, primal and sadistic.
also right foot deep into the floor pan of an 8 feels liek you've just slapped an angry bull in the face and now you're about to go on the ride of a lifetime!

I want the sound of a V8, the power of a V8 but the fuel economy of a six (don't we all). Turbos seem to give us the right power and fuel economy but the sound is not a V8.
What makes a V8 sound like a V8? That grunty snort... is it simply the size of the engine matched with 8 cylinders and larger exaust? Does the V angles have anything to do with it? They run at generally lower revs as well, is that right? So you hear the "details" more.

But some V8s sound like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wexZH...eature=related
European V8 over American/Australian V8 for me anyday of the week. The only American/Australian-like V8 sound I like is Mercedes' 6.2L V8... but then they're Euro. I heard a C63 AMG driving past the other day. It made a GTHO sounded like a wannabe. |

I don't know what the hoo-haa about V8. A lot of people here treat is like it's the best engine in the world. Australian/American V8 is way overrated.

would have to be the V8 regardless for me.
drove a friends F6 3-4mths ago and loved it with a passion (only got into second gear so who knows how much more it would of rocked when using the other 4 gears haha) but have allways dreamt of owning a V8 and finally got it in a G220 Fairy. not looking back now.

Road tested both cars before making a decision. The BA XR6 Turbo and BA XR8. I thought both cars were great but just totally fell in love with the V8. Love the Rumble, Loved the presence and feel on the road. I do understand you can mod up a turbo cheaper and make it go quicker. But anything beyond 220kw is enough anyways. So I decided and bought the BA XR8. Never looked back and have never doubted that decision.

V8 for sure.
Though I am at the stage where I am sick of EFI all together, the price of making them go better is just phenomanal. The turbo 6's can be made to sound better than factory, but cant even compare to a V8 on noise.
