Default Top Shock Mounts

As most of us know, this is a common problem with the AU Falcon and i am experiencing problems with mine at the moment. Axle tramp is not fun.
Is there an aftermarket option to the Ford ones? If a part number and a rough price can be given on a non genuine or even a genuine unit then that would be very helpful. Thanks.

At the moment as far as i know, genuine is the only option. They are around $90 a side and relatively easy to do on your own. Dont pay anymore than $300 total if your getting someone to do it for you.

Good luck with it, you'll be glad when its fixed!

i preety sure nolathen make them as well. I changed mine to the genuine ones and never had a problem again.

What are the symptoms of bad shock mounts? I think i have the same problem.

I changed my shocks but they still knock over every bump.

Is there any way to check them visually? Or is this the only thing it could be.

if its IRS(being XR8 im sure it is) .. ford is the ONLY option (unless nolathane made some in the last 6 months)

one of the T series owners knows sombody who is testing some new ones that use a giant rose joint?(ball joint type thing)... but its still under development and has had a few issues so far due to the stresses and angles applied to it

blacklisted is talking about rears (RE: axle tramp)

front id say its bushes or ball joints (just get somthing to lever the parts with(big screwdriver or crowbar) and the movment should be minimal (it wont hurt it as greater stress applied by 2k kg of car under hard braking and steering ;))

Ahh o.k.

I have tried that and even the guy from tyre power said everything was tight and looking good. Pedders report said upper control arm bushes needed replacing and a sway bar D bush. Also has a control arm pivot joint.

But i dont see how these bushes would cause a vibration to go away when slightly turning. Wheel bearings have no movement either.

I appreciate your help blackers10.

My next option is to replace everything and pay $2000 which i really dont want to do.

i wouldnt get any work done at pedders
they cant even seem to get a wheel alignment correct (camber even)on a AU Fairlane front end on superlows
and are a rip off

all those bushes are easy to replace
unsure what a control arm pivot joint is?? unless thats pedders for ball joint? lol

Do the upper control arm bushes need to be pressed out or back in with a hydraulic press???

if its the inner ones

my brother got the grinder out and ground the end off the bushes which made them peel apart easy as

then you just squeeze some grease (supplied with nolathane items) all over the new bushes and put them in and do it all up and its all done

I just put nolathane bushes in my uppers and did all of them in the lowers.

Lowers inner and outter require pressing to get out and in (or freezing them may get them in nicely) -- shock mount ones can be lopped off and punched out.

Uppers are a single peice from factory, lop the end off with a hacksaw and knock the other end out.

The Nolathane ones are 2 peice, just push/drive in -- grease up the metal sleeve and drive it in you don't put grease on the the rubber bit that sits in the control arm..... That I can remember anyway.. Instructions clearly state it anyway

hey mate, just changed my rear mounts with the suspension. u can only get genuine ones and yup around the 90-100 mark each side. easy as to do urself prob only take an hour max at home, 4 nuts up top and one down the bottom. i still have my old ones but pretty sure there's nothing wrong with them(no visual damage) i'm guessing they crack causing the axle tramp. goodluck

As blackers was saying, there are some prototypes being looked at.

Shaynet is the member you need to speak to, although it was bought up last month, and there has been no further progress.

In terms of the rear shock mounts (and excuse my lack of knowledge), are you talking about the item referred to as a 'top hat'? I just had these both replaced on my car and am interested to know whether you are talking about the same thing.
