Default El Svo 215??? Wtf

Hi guys,

I have seen at the back of an old magazine of mine, an EL SVO 215?? It read that it was an original SVO and it had 215kw, thats 15kw more than the GT?? And I have never heard or seen anything about this car? Can you guys shed any light? or does any one have any pics/specs or maybe a old magazine article?? Just seems funny that a car wearing a ford badge with more power than the EL GT goes un-noticed? -I would assume there are even less EL SVO's out there then EL GT's!! They must be pretty treasured. Any info on this car would be much appreciated.

A mate of mine has one,

apart from the body and interior bits they scored some kind of alloy heads, roller rockers, GT40 tubular intake manifold, decent extractors and exhaust. They even scored GT brakes and suspension.

Quite a nice unit really and here are definately less of them than GT's

I don't have any but i'll see what i can dig up, he's had the thing for quite a long time so he would have paid a decent amount for it as it would have still been fairly new when he got it.

They were a limited run done by Woolloongabba ford up in Qld (excuse the spelling if I got it wrong.) I looked into their packs a fair while ago - they offered engine builds to that spec or complete cars in the ELs. The body kits were the same as the ELGT although they had the XR front ends - which looked better imo. Wheels or Motor did a story on them. Geez I've gotta go through that old stack of mags again.
There's a fairlane version currently for sale on evilbay, it shows southside fords tag on the compliance plate, contact them direct as they are the ones who did them.

They were done by a mob called SVO Motorsport in Southport I think. They used to advertise in Wheels and Motor from memory.

it would of looked like the EL GT should have, based on the XR instead of the fairlaine or was it fairmont?? I forget. But I would really appreciate it if you could dig through your old mags and post up the article, would be a good read.
Thanks for the responses guys, keep the info coming, very interesting.
cheers,

There was five versions, 2 based on XR one with 190kw and the other with 215kw, two based on Fairmont Ghia with the same engine options, and a 190kw XR ute.

If I remeber correctly, it has around the same pace as an EL GT. The SVO XR was around 7K cheaper, but didnt get all the luxury items of the EL GT.

It didnt get the same fame as EL GT cause it wasnt an official release from Ford or Tickford.

Southside Ford did a fair bit of this back in the day - I had an EB Ghia "SVO Sportsline" - Mostly a set of wheels, a big ugly sticker up the side, a set of weird 4-1 headers with no cats and that's about it...

I doubt it left a factory/workshop without cats!

I dont think as much engineering went into the SVO cars over the EL GT.

I actually used to own one as you can see by my tag. It was a limited release from Southside ford here in Brisbane. In all my researching when i owned it the biggest number produced that i found was about 15. I had a 5speed xr8 215kW version. Was a nice car sad to let it go. Guy in townsville bought mine, i met another guy in Brisbane who had the Fairmont verson.

I had a list of what was done all ford motorsport parts, SVO e303 cam, SVO alloy heads, 4 into 1 headers, 328mm front twin piston brakes, GT40 manifold. The spec sheet i have wont upload in full size and that is hard enough to read let alone in smaller size. I am having issue uploading the images at the moment, as some were on the add when i sold the car so it wont let me upload them

nice spec sheet, shame you had to sell it. I think the XR SVO's look awesome. The EL GT FORD should of built...!! Would of been a good starting point for mods aswell coz had decent heads and manifold on it already..

yes i looked at the ad on carsales also and thought 'factory 215kw ? WHAT THE..' but if it's the real deal then it'd be worth snapping up. Shame it's in QLD but i wonder if it's worth importing........ hmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm sure its performance isn't breathtaking, but it'd be a decent improvement over a stock 165kw windsor.

You can still buy the body kit up here in Bris. It is pretty cheap.

I have driven a manual 215 xr. I felt it was gonna be a bit dissappointing considering the heavier el gt was quicker. I was surprised. It felt pretty good. It didn't feel that much different (performance wise) to a manual el gt I drove. It didn't seem slower (but it's hard to feel a tenth of a second over the quarter). It isn't as refined as the gt motor. The gt motor seems to have a smoother and more consistent power delivery through the rev range. The svo seemed a bit 'peaky.' Later on, I found that EL GT's probably have a bit more than 200kw when run in.

Has anyone dyno'ed one?

Oh yes i remember reading or coming across when SVO were tweaking the fords back in the day. Some respectable performance enhancements with the aggressive bodykits to back them up, though i recall which it has been discussed recently on here before, the EL Sequential, which had an impressive list of engine upgrades but i was baffled how they could only extract minimal amount of kw's?

Just on the topic regarding the Sequential a good work associate of mine knows the owner and the location of the vehicle which im bl**dy waiting for some photos were he mentioned he would take some for me. If and when he does hopefully i can display them on here.

Cool

Talking about SVO's I've just brought one here in NZ a EF Fairmont ghia 185kw version thats been mod to 238kw 001svo plate under the hood found out south auckland made 42 SVO this being the first
As I paid only 5k for it (it's abit rough)I'll be making it alot better with many more mods planned like-

-heatspacer on its GT40 manifold
-Fuelstar filter
-3.73 diff
-triptronic mod on 4spd + shiftkit
-respray
-El GT wing + aftermaket front spoiler
-ECU mods

hoping for a 250kw 13sec 1/4 mile beast :

Pics soon
