Just watched the road test on drive.com so I thought I'd have a look. The retro culture is alive and well!!

would look alright if they moulded the bonnet like the ford bonnet buldge and not just look like they super glued a peice of plastic there.

I like the look in all honesty, it'd be the only way to get me in a new holden other than a statesman/caprice.

It looks like they just stuck bits of the 80s all over the car. Boxy edges on such a smooth car.

I don't like:
- boxy bonnet lump
- rear spoiler
- stripes on the side of the front bar
- and the most - the wheels... Seroiusly the same rims in chrome would actually look modern, and not look like someone playing around with MS Paint and a 80s wheels catalogue.

If there's a market though good on them.

i'm with blackLS....the reasons listed are more than enough to turn me off this car. The way the rear spoiler 'sits' over the tailights is just wrong.

Supercharged and 7Lt version sound good. And its good to see Holden doing something outside the box of the standard HSV's or SS bombadores.

80's styling additions don't work on a 2008 model. It just looks wrong.

One of the ugliest vehicles I've seen for a while. Tacky, and trys way too hard.

I like the idea however the execution just misses the mark. But still, it definately gives the impression of the original 80's era HDTs. If there was a bit of refinement eg. lose the bonnet scoop or go for a nicely grafted bulge ala BA Falcon style, and make the rear spoiler a little more subtle, I think they'd definately be onto something. The style, wheels, colours and graphics are cool, but the body kit needs some tidying up

Saw one at Targa West, me and my brother (both classic car nuts doesn't matter what badge) loved it, especially the retro wheels.
I must admit I don't remember seeing that rear spoiler on it, looks like Walkinshaw.
All the same it looked and sounded hot.

Seen one in the flesh at the HDT open day in Ringwood (couple of doors down from Mick Webb's SVO) and I thought it looked pretty darn eye-catching, although there was a lot of white gap filler around the join of the rear spoiler and boot lid....

Iv seen pics of that car months ago.
I like it. I like it a lot. Takes an ordinary VE and makes it look a little retro and lots HORN....Now if they did somthing with that rubbish VE interiour....Well.....

I have come close several times to buying either a particular white manual VC HDT Commodore and a few diffrent black manual ones.
Specially when I have been getting sick of how some people in the GT fraternity carry on with pushing their adjendas and my cars better or more valuable than yours because its an XY thing etc

Of all the old and new Commodores out there, the old VC HDT is my only favourite. The one I really like, looks wise and drive wise. The VK was nice outside, but the dash was feral in that. They (VC HDT) are a beautiful driving machine where their only downfall is the weaker gearbox.
Drive wise in the modern types, my old VN Group A SS Commodore was well up there too, but the body kit took a bit to like and it was a mongrel to back and reverse park.

Would I buy one of these new retro HDT VE's?

Possibly, but the inside would have to NOT be VE Commodore.

Looks like a VC HDT Commodore has locked away a VN Group A Commodore away in a cellar, had incestuous sex with it and created this.
The Fritzl version of the HDT
