Default Groan/noise in engine bay when turning car off when cold

I have a groan coming from the engine when turning off the car when its cold and doesnt happen all the time and I think its coming from the left hand side The noise sounds like when a chair or table is moved on a polished floor, it only lasts for around 1/4 of second and happens as the engine stops running when I have turned the car off.
Any Ideas what this could be??
Cheers
Glenn

Yeah mine does the same thing, just a little low pitched creak when the engine is switched off. Only when cold. If I start the car cold, then drive for a minute, and then switch off the engine, it makes this noise, no other time.

Anyone know why? Belts or something? Wouldnt be a bearing of some kind in the engine would it?

mines makes a noise similar but happens all the time and its more frequent with the a/c on, might try and video tape it, as its very hard to describe, nobody can tell me what the noise is..some bloke mentioned leaves stuck somewhere in the a/c system..i just laughed him off.

Spot on, as you say a low pitched creak , for me it doesn't seem to do it when its warm but still will do it after a short drive when the car has not fully gotten warm. Almost the same noise when your brakes creak when stopped at the lights.
anyone any ideas??
