Even with the Explorer example there seemed to be alot of emphasis on the word Ford when it was on the news,

If you looked at the footage, the cruise buttons are broken, and just sitting in there flexing. Of course thats Fords fault that general maintenance hasnt been kept up to date.

even the missus picked the broken buttons ,but they have it by the horns now ... wont be pretty
is there any way to fight back or is it really just let the media have a field day ...its just that you never see anyone fight back ,well not that the media /mob would show you anyway

A mate of mine had the cruise stick on in his 07 f150, he had to hit the key after the brakes and the button didn't cancel it out.
took ford ages to fix it.
But that guy in the exploder was a nincompoop! the first thing I would try is the brakes then the key and lastly knock it out of gear, I would rather kill the engine than crash the car.
It amazes me that he had time to make two phone calls but never thought do do any of those things, what a moron.

Fair enough but in all fairness I have seen a lot of the same stuff levelled at the general.
You remember the stories about the guy who had seven new engines in six years in his holden and the last one didn't have an engine number.
what about the girl with the lemon jeep cherokee with a whining diff. There has been more but thats all i can think of for now.
Any primetime media are blatant sensationalist IMO, what about that guy who was meant to be the father of eight children to as many mothers, The media painted him up as a deadbeat dad untill he got his story across and most of the women where found to be lying.

Look at the good side guys.

When the scrubies scream for GPS based speed control systems we now have some perfect examples of what can happen if the computer goes bezerk.

If a system can fail it will fail and your car dropping to 60km/h while you are overtaking a line of trucks because the GPS "safety" computer thinks there is a school nearby could be fatal.....

More negative news about Ford. : The media will be making people think all Fords are dangerous because of this incident and that the problem applies to all Fords including Falcons, Mondeos, Focuses etc. There will be a lot of "don't drive a Ford because you'll get killed" family discussions around the tables at Christmas about it convincing each other to not buy a Ford of any kind because of one weird incident involving an American Ford which is like night and day compared to any other Ford currently on sale in Australia.

Absolutely! I think this point needs more emphasis. Especially if you look at the failure of Government projects like the NSW 'T-Card' it presents a huge potential safety risk.

I'm glad I drive a manual car as I know I will never have a problem if cruise control ever got stuck on.

And on that note, have a read of this.

http://spectrum.ieee.org/blog/comput...-a-runaway-car

Toyota, the supposed 'reliable' manufacturer has its problems too.

If you ever get to watch a show called "Frontline" from the D-Gen/Working Dog mob (back in 90's) then do so and all your questions will be answered.

Why does Ford need to take responsibility of wearing components with 15 yo EF/EL's??? Surely the clowns in the media realise the age of the vehicle it's poor condition and the obvious lack of maintenece contributes to failing componentry???? Maybe I should ring ACA about the two busted engine mounts that forced open the throttle of the 1980 Commodore that we just purchased (in 1988), or even the idiotic Holden dealer maintenance department in the Windsor area who were fixing it under warranty who chose to tune the engine of said vehicle BEFORE replacing the mounts which led to the engine magically jumping through the radiator, which apparently, was my fault......

Pardon my stupidity here but why didn't they just turn it off at the stick that turns it on? Or just kill the engine or drop into neutral or something ... there are a lot more options surely than just blaming Ford for a faulty cruise control.

Or was a case of the vehicle was just not able to do any of these?

The runaway Explorer story was a big deal, if it had been a runaway Jackaroo then a guy with faulty Cruise in his VS would've surfaced and been interviewed.

There's more anti-Ford bias in motoring journalism (though not as much as there used to be)

Just goes to prove that the Terminator is coming - the machine is taking over with all this computer controlled cars they have lost the plot. Way too much electronics now a days in cars no wonder they are wanting to do their own things.

You don't see many XL - XE series cars having these issues - no cruise control or lots of computers doing everything.

Heard about it, didn't see it. Can't believe the knob didn't just turn the engine off. Some people just shouldn't be around machinery, like cars.

How do the media latch onto this but wait until someone is hurt or killed when their pre-SYII front suspension collapses on the highway. Was reading the Terry forum a few days ago, what a shocker.

I'll front up $50 that the problem wasn't with the cruise control switch/control unit at all. Probably the actuator or throttle body jammed.

I was unsure that I could go back to ford after 14 years and claim faults my car has had, now it seems i can - wonder if they will replace my tyres as well as thats Fords Fault that they have warn out.

Oh and the pics on my power windows have worn off so i want new ones

And if I find rust in it thats Fords Fault as well................

Its the Media that need to harden up - all the B.S stories and "news" items they let out each day.

A prime example of rubbish journalism is the Sunday Herald Sun.
How much more "Brave little...." "Poor old........." "Its a miracle...." B.S can you squeeze into a paper.

Some of the things that are getting passed off as news is more like rubbish that should be saved for Womans Day or New Idea.

Had the cruise control been in a Holden, you would never have heard of it.

The media has a lot to answer for and needs to be bought back in line.
Till people stop buying and listening to their rubbish, they'll just continue on with the crp.
