Default AU1 wheel stud replacement.

I have to replace a rear wheel stud and was hoping the job can be done diy, has anyone replaced a stud and are there any special tools required?

any help appreciated.

Buy genuine studs, my dad bought ones from repco or something and they wouldn't fit even though they were clearly the right ones

Some years ago I replaced ones that look like this http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixit..._stud_repl.htm.

If Ford ones are the same, simply bash out the broken/stripped one from the front and bash in the new one from the rear.

Simple.

IRS or live axle ?

I haven't done one on an AU yet but i think its an axle out job.

shouldn't be, i did a rear on an ea wagon i had years ago, it had a spot at the back of the diff to allow the stud out and the new one back in.


as above, just bash the old one out from the front. then the easiest way to get the new one back in is push it through from the back and tighten the nut back up on it to pull it through the hub.

I did a stud on the rear of a BA wagon and the ABS/traction control sensor ring is in the way and needs to be knocked off 1st. I'm thinking it may be the same for AU but I'm not 100%.

fair enough, it is an au1 though, so there's a very good chance it doesn't even have abs...

Yeah it has a live axle, non abs so it sounds like it will be a reasonably easy job. thanks for the replies people!
