OK, so I was keen to go to this auction... but with recent prices I stayed away.

Has someone got a gun? I am a moron! : :

There was also a black ZA on carsales, odd black/burgandy interior, I6 (but must be rare to find those these days) for $6k. $6k.

It was perfect.

but $3.6k makes me cry.I thought auctions usually ask more $$$?

I've been watching them for the last few years... I am of the opinion that collectors' items cause a frenzy at auction, but the cooking models go for peanuts.

Case in point was a low-kay, immaculate grand ma owned LC Torana that sold for 4k recently.

I think people just aren't there to buy nice classics.

Will watch this EK price for sure...
EK for sale

they seem to sell cars so much less at auctions on ebay and car sales they would be double.

this seems quite cheap for a 2 door escort http://shannons.com.au/pages/auction...Q6AFZDO75O9E93

thats why its always worth going to auctions...
if they're no reserve.... never know what you might get...

I could certainly reel off a few that i've seen go by that I wish I had have had at least a bid on...

Yeah but remember its a project, and who knows what the rust is like. But as it sits 3-6k is about right.

Pretty sure that's a members car, he had a link to it in his sig.

ZA prices are on the way up for the bottom end "restoration projects" but the nice original cars seem to be available for under 10k if you keep your eyes open.

The days of buying them in nice drivable/usable condition for a grand (like mine,ha ha!) are long gone.

That car is beautiful (I love my Fairlanes), even the Mrs who isnt as enthusiastic thinks that was a phenominal bargain and she would have loved it.

Congrats to the new owner (stuggles to type as the green haze descends...)

That XU1 at the same auction got big money...
Wonder if that would be a good long term investment?

no, no, it wasn't mine, I was just sympathising as well.
The original link indicated that it was ill health, so I'm with you there in hoping that everything is ok for the seller.
(I learnt my lesson many years ago, it will take an extrodinary reason for me to part with a car I don't want to part with again)

Thing is if you were there bidding, the other guy who got it would have bid higher and one of you would have paid a lot more! maybe double? You just have to hope at auctions no one wants it, not even one person.

Happened to me the other day for a dining setting... would have had it for 250, but there was one lady who kept bidding it up to 500...and she got it.
