Default Getting Rid Of Emission Control

Hi All.

I was wondering how easy is it to get rid of as much of the emission control crap that's cluttering up the engine bay? Basically, I don't know what I should be looking to eliminate/ block, & what bits I'll actually need.

Does anyone here have any experience with getting rid of this? And how difficult is it?

non of Escort drivers HAVE EVER removed the Emission Controls on our Escorts - nudge nudge wink wink (it is a huge fine if caught)

If it is an original MK2 2 L it will have the full monty of stuff - I am not a mechanic so I wont try to use the correct names

On my road car I left all the parts there & blocked the tubes starting at the thermostat housing working back to the carbie. if you are going to remove it completely then get yourself an early thermostat housing that doesnt have the polutuion bits hanging off it and work back from there removing anything that is attached to it

from memory there is a dedicated section in the workshop manual

the only vacuum lines i have connected are; manifold to auto, dizzy to carb.

Thanks for the help, people. I've checked out the section in the service & repair manual, but I have no idea what I "need" to keep & what the car can do without; I hate working blindly because I usually don't know when I'm in trouble & need to stop! If it's illegal to remove the emission control, then I'll say for the record that I won't be going ahead with removing the emission control. I have a mate who has quoted me around $360 to rewire the front end & not remove the emission control. Guess it will have to wait until after the wedding, when I can hopefully justify the expense to the soon-to-be other half.

Are there any after- market alternatives for the emission control system? One that meets legal requirements & doesn't clutter up the engine bay with a convoluted jumble of black spaghetti?

just rip it all out.. i dont know how many people can look at an escort engine bay and say whats factory and whats not.
