that's what I thought.

I don't know why people have to lie in adds. If anything, it may have been done soon after it left the factory, but to say it came like that from factory is amazing.

I'd say it might be 'legit' as in it has a turbo and sunroof but as said above, they weren't factory spec. Maybe a dealer fit option but I highly doubt it, would love a dealer that could install turbos

there were ford approved turbo installs back then on late x series and ea's
AIT turbo cars were plated as turbo cars on the compliance plates from new

Before everyone goes away....
I think that you will find that there was a turbo xf Ghia sedan sanctioned by Ford. I have seen one here years ago and was told by the Workshop that was working on it that Ford listed it in the spare parts section( I had not verified this ,though saw no reason to doubt the story)
it was based on the efi six and was twin turbo and had two fake rectangular grille /vents on the bonnet,I was called in to change over the power steering box and what a nightmare to get at it !!!

If all this is true ,Ford should have records on this
if not.........

I might ask the ebay seller if they have any documents to verify.

Really says it all. The fact that there is sensitivity with people questioning its authenticity is enough to tell me the guy has nothing to back up the claims. If it was from factory, surely there would be a brochure of some sort, or the option listed on a spec sheet.

AIT did Factory approved and complied units. Sunroofs were also available.
Is says from new not from factory in the ad. There is a difference. Yeah it could be legit.

Also i've always been a little suspicious of people That Use Capitals For Every Word They Type. Its not confirmation that they are lying or that they are a bad person but it puts me on notice

Using a lower case i is ok though

EDIT: You should get the Territory odometer fraud guy to check it out, lol

That one used Dick Johnson's name but was actually built in Bayswater, Melbourne. (some were turbo and others not) Dick Johnson was looking at developing a XF Turbo package in conjunction with HKS (I think) in Japan to allow him to keep racing a Falcon but the deal never made it.

The one on EBay looks to be an AIT kit as some of you have already mentioned - IF it was fitted when new, it would have had a second plate under the hood for registration/Environmental compliance. My Brother-in-law had a nice XF Ghia years ago with that same sunroof, they were the Hollandia brand - always aftermarket dealer fit options - NOT factory.

Jeddak, you're not thinking of the AIT built all wheel drive, twin turbo Ghia? There was a person who used to post on here who's dad owned it and was in the process of rebuilding/restoring it - it's been quite a while since he last updated. There were some twin turbo kits made for the XE/XF and they sometimes appear on EBay

It quite clearly says from factory in the description, including the sunroof. Plus, there's no other additional plates where the normal factory ones are to suggest it's AIT.

IIRC ZL Fairlane Turbo ran with HKS sytem, while the XE ran A.I.T/Techsem system. I know the XE Turbo had three compliance plates, can't recall the ZL Turbo had.

have you asked him for additional pics?
doccumentation?
or just speculating on the internet??

Did you read the description? I don't think this guy likes to be questioned about its authenticity. I have asked some questions, hopefully I get a reply from him.

And, there's nothing wrong with a little speculation.

At the end of the day, I guess I have my answer that there is was no factory turbo ZLs with sunroofs.

Go to the ebay page, then click on the title in the description and it will take you to a link to an add for it. There are pictures of the compliance plates. Nothing on there to suggest any validity.

In reply to XR6WGN....no, the Ghia that I worked on was not awd,and was then registered inQld and in use (about 8 years ago) I thought the turbos were Garret, but Im not sure now ,it was years ago.

The two bonnet grilles were w100mm x L320mmxh15mm and flat with grille ridges running the long way (didnt look half bad actually),and were located where a "shaker"scoop would be located
I dont recall any extra badging though there might have been a red "turbo" badge on the boot lid

Since post the above reply ,i went and had a look at the ebay link
On the sun roof ,the LTD version had the sunroof as standard did it not?
and the turbo setup does not look the same as the xf one that I saw

There were some prototypes running around about then from magazine articles i read.
Dick johnson was trying to persuade them to build turbo sixes.

Having owned a 1988 XF Fairmont Ghia, I can tell you that actually is genuine.
I certainly do not recall any turbo's though, Especially on a 1985 one. 1986 onwards they went to unleaded, 1984-1985 XF Falcon/Fairmont/Fairlanes were all running on super and had no Cat Converter. (not that it proves or disproves anything)

Looks like the genuine ones. They were a dealer-fitted option, AIT as previously mentioned. There is a thread in the X-series section on them I think. Do a search.

I have a wheels mag around here from the time that featured it on the cover. Made some impressive numbers. And still kept dealer warranty.

I can confirm that twin turbo XF Falcon. It was AWD too.

A FF member posted pictures of it a few years ago. Apparently his dad is restoring it, haven't heard much since.
