I will be market for a new car.My son wants the XR6 and I feel now is the time for a new car.
My pre-requisites are as follows Turbo powered up to but optional on the six I dont want XR6Turbo Up to the 50k mark VW are hideously expensive and on services/parts Subaru out as above Any thing that requires timing belt change @ 100k mark Not much but I feel help will be at hand I will quote James may There is not better car that you can exploit to 100% of it capacity I mean would you rather have a 300+kw car that you hardly give it the berries or a car that has 200kw and have fun nearly all the times cheers |

$50k will get you a manual GS if you push hard.
Do you want manual or auto, sedan or other, any marques on or off the scope...... |

How do you feel about Volvo??
S60 F Series T5 Powershift should be within your price. Nice turbo 4, around 180kw. Otherwise I’d be going for the G6E in Ecoli. |

Like Euro flavour and happy with FWD - Ecoboost Mondeo; only 150kw/300nm out of the box, but you will be surprised at how well it uses it. There is a reason the Mondeo is very successful up against Audi/BMW/Mercedes in Europe.
http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/...e=15&__Dx=mode Prefer home grown - G6 Ecoboost Limited Edition. 179kw/353nm http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/...e=15&__Dx=mode Both are marginally over your weight bracket though - Mondeo 1542kg, G6 around 1600kg mark. Dark horse would be a second hand Focus RS, as Neale has posted above.... Last edited by JimStone; 18-04-2012 at 10:20 AM. |

That Mondeo's kerb weight is nearly 1700kg's !!
Dunno why op is against "expensive to maintain" VW's? My dad bought a new VW Jetta and the only things that cost him money last 6 years was a new battery & fix saggy hoodlining. The thing steers like a go kart, and the combination of DSG gearbox, 1393kg, & 147kw makes for an enjoyable car. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/...ax&sort=~Price ![]() ![]() |

I only meant on the VW(I do have a soft spot for the mighty VW) that the spare parts are expensive along with services(But that can be done through a decent mech).I have never had but I am interested in turbo power. The XR6 while a top performer has its built quality issues(One from the top of my head is the strange palace the the Power str pump is located right over the alternator) >May be I will go the turbo 6 way but these little issue really count.
cheers |

my dad actually traded his BA XR6T for a new VW turbo jetta back in 2006........ he has no regrets
why dont you go test drive a few different cars mentioned instead of trying to decide which car you want on an internet forum, you will soon see what is best for you |

A VW Sirocco or a RS250 Megane. And VW may bring in capped price servicing soon though prob still expensive, but if you want a car you can drive & will reward you. EDIT: Or the Turbo Focus due soon. |

cupic,
How many doors do you need? Will it be used to cart around the family? Are you willing to accept some compromises for performance? |

I know you dont want an XR6T but im going to recommend it, you cant beat the I6
in terms of reliability and performance and parts are cheap, the driveline is bulletproof and will handle heavy right foots |

VW's are naff.
You have to keep opening the door to let the clutch out. VW drivers are wussies. |

I'd personally go for a Focus XR5 Turbo. Phenomenal handling and steering, and the 5 cylinder engine has stacks of character. With the change you can also buy an AU XR8.
I quite like the BMW idea as well. They don't cost as much to service as people think, and are actually quite reliable (especially in terms of the drivetrain). How about a 130i?

If you don't want a Ford turbo or Subaru turbo car, then maybe look at the Lancer turbo cars.
Having owned a MY99 WRX for about 11 years (wife still has MY01 WRX) Subaru's were pretty expensive to maintain. But it was loads of fun to drive.
