Default Dowling at it again!

http://www.news.com.au/national/auto...-1226513994050

Seriously, how does a good news story about a supplier being saved by Ford and Holden working together become another Ford is dead story?

What does it matter if we ignore him, there are huge numbers of prospective buyers out there reading it which is only going to hurt Ford Australia. His speculation is so irresponsible, it's unbelievable this garbage gets published. At the end of the day nobody knows what Ford is going to do in the long term, nothing has been announced so there is nothing to talk about. How it ends up in news articles constantly is beyond me.

no doubt he patrols the forums, and no doubt he picks up some negative vibes from some of the constantly negative posters on here with an axe to grind, that bring up the same stuff over and over and over again, or the odd troll, cars have problems, cars of all brands, by all means talk about it have a rant, then move on , it gets real stale after a while.

Enthusiast blog sites have angrily accused the current boss of Ford Australia, Bob Graziano, a Detroiter, of being sent here to "shut it down" even though he has not shut down a factory in his career.

I remember reading that exact line on another thread here sure it could be any forum but they don't get much bigger then this one

I think saying that he Quotes AFF is drawing a pretty long bow. It wasn't a quote and I'm fairly sure that AFF isn't the only Ford site in Oz!

What I'd like to know is why is a article written by a so called journalist titled

"Autodom collapse almost wrecked Australian car industry"

When 99% of the article was a false accusation about one car branded manufacturer in Aus,
He really does have a personal vendetta out for Ford Aus.

Dowling is doing more wrecking of the Australian car manufacturing than the situation which he was reporting on. The industry relies on Ford, Holden and Toyota combined, for car manufacture in Australia to remain viable.

FG Falcons are fantastic cars, I enjoy driving mine each time and have had no issues in the two years since delivery. Love the car. Misleading reports like this make readers not even look at a Falcon as possible purchase.

It's so sad to see things like that article written. When I bout my BA last year I paid the owner, not ford. I wish I could have bought it from ford and supported the company in some little way.

Losing the Falcon will be a tragedy.

On one hand you have a public forum, on the other a nationally distributed news source. When FordForums threads start appearing on the front page of news.com.au and in newspapers all over the country presented as journalism, then they might have the same reach as this clown.

Dowling's logic,
"Because Ford hasn't made a commitment like Holden to continue local manufacturing beyond 2020, they must be planning to close up....."

An opinion dressed up as fact and god help anyone disagreeing with that "logic"....

Not trying to be the devils advocate here but apart from the article being about the Autodom woes turning into one about Fords woes there wasn't anything new in there that I read that hasn't already been in numerous articles and reports already.

Holden have announced that they will continue manufacturing into the immediate future, they just don't know exactly what product, while Ford Oz haven't made any official announcement. I didn't read any Falcon bashing or Commodore lauding, only the mention that the EB Falcon wasn't a huge sales success. Its even mentioned that an industry insider/advisor believes Ford will work hard to keep Aus production going beyond 2016.

So apart from it being crappy journalism (the article changing subject half way through turning into a Ford's demise piece) there wasn't really anything inflammatory in his article.

Its almost laughable that he thinks it would take 18 months to move parts supplies to another supplier. They have switched suppliers before in a matter of days. Once the tooling is moved which could be done in a day or 2, then it doesn't take long to get them production ready and to spec. It would only take 18 months if the part had to be done from scratch with no tooling and a blank piece of paper.

Really shows how much he really knows, and it would resemble something you'd flush down the toilet.

ignoring him is the worst thing you can do. since when is sticking your head in the sand a good idea anytime?

it's nasty that they go off at Ford for not revealing plans beyond 2016, but who can plan that far ahead? (and if so would it be something you'd want public?)

Newspapers are folding left right and center in the USA...soo...just a matter of time before Fairfax falls over. Its share price is also at an all-time low I believe.

I think it would depend on the product, and if the tooling is actually accessible..
let alone the costs involved with such a move.
I’d think his sources were reasonably accurate

even if they are moving all the tooling etc they have to get all ADR testing done for a new supplier weird I know but thats the law. this includs crash resting where the component is in any way involved in structure or restraint

Can't believe how quickly it turned from Ford and Holden working together for the greater good of Australian car manufacturing, to Ford sucks and here is why I think they are closing down tomorrow.

Both of these opinions are wrong from both ends of the spectrum.

What really bugged me about this article was the inference that its was only a $6 hinge that would have ground the industry to a halt. What about the $0.10 clip we supply, or the other $500 worth of component we sell to Holden for every VE ? or the seat parts we supply to Futuris ?

Its not the parts supplied that are critical, its the equipment we have which is not readily substitutable that's the problem with re-sourcing.

As an example, a program to re-source all of the suspension parts from a recently shutdown supplier in Melbourne was mapped out to take 4 weeks from pick up of tools and equipment, through to regular supply of parts.
