Toyota is going a bloody great job with its local sedan's. Both Camry & now Aurion are doing very very. I wonder if Toyota is selling the farm with these models (through both price & finance) or if these are real & long lasting gains. Will these continue in 2013?

Actually, that's a great result for Focus. Maybe dealres are actually getting decent amounts of stock these days,
I wonder how high they can trade on it, perhaps Focus numbers in the mid 2,000s?

If you add Aurion (1272) to Camry - you have the biggest selling car in the country again. And it comes back to this: people want to buy large cars, they are just bloody sick of being ripped off to get one. You price a large sedan competively (Camry and Aurion) and shock horror it becomes the best selling car in the country.

Toyota have cut prices for the market share. But this is what the market expects, Falcon XT Commodore Omega at 40 grand is a joke and it is about time that Holden and Ford wake up and realise its not a two horse race anymore. They are competing with a very value-conscious market.

My Camry Hybrid I picked up two weeks ago was approx 32 grand with 0% finance, 5 year warranty and $130 servicing. My camry is fully equipped and even has reverse camera, 7 airbags, and push-button start. It handles better than a VE, has excellent build quality, roomy. The Hybrid Synergy Drive is amazing 0-100kmh in 7.8 secs and I am averaging 5.7 litres per 100km in the city. Having said all that I wouldnt pay much more than 32 grand in todays competitive market.

Falcon Ecoboost and Commodore Omega should start at $29,990.

I have only ever bought Falcons and recently a Commodore, but I think I am done with them until they get their heads out of their a*** in terms of their pricing.

I think we should all breath a collective sigh that Camry and Aurion are
reported as separate models and not as the I-4 and V6 Camry like in the USA.
The thought of Toyota holding down so many places in the top ten is getting demoralizing..

To be fair, you have quoted 40K for Falcon & Commodore which is there full RRP. So looking at RRP the Aurion too is priced at 40K for base model & Camry is priced at 35K for base.

Also, Ford currently has XR6 at 34K & 2.9% finance. This is only 2K more than you paid which I think is fair as it is a bigger car. Finance is not as good, but still a good deal by Ford at 2.9%. Also noted, toyota is now back to 2.9% as well on Camry..


I personally think it is more than just pricing.

These days I don't view it as Ford v Holden v Toyoya with regards to locally made cars. I see it as us versus the world. I'm a Ford bloke through and through, but if a locally made Toyota is flying out the door then I'm happy. Same goes for Commodore and Cruze, I hope these models sell their socks off. It would be nice if Falcon was on top, but that's just not the way it is. The sooner Toyota get the third model line here the better, Australian manufacturing needs everything it can get.

I'm with Brazen too, Ford and Holden need to pull their heads out of their ***** and cut the price of the XT and Omega to below $30 grand, hell, even below $28,000. Then they have two choices. Cut the prices of the rest of the range as well or stuff the cars full of the same kit you can get in the imports and hold the prices where they are. I know there are some here who don't care about the kit, but our country has never before been so value concious. The more specs you can list the better these days.

I think you are missing the point why the Camry sales are so high. The Camry has become the de facto Falcon / Commodore fleet replacement vehicle, yes all these fleets that used to buy the Falcons / Commodores are now buying the Camry instead. These days fleets are simply looking for the cheapest alternative there is, they don't care about the cars as long as they fit the bill, the Camry is 4 cylinder, its a bit cheaper to buy, the servicing is cheaper than the other two so it automatically makes it a winner in a fleets manager's eyes!

I do agree with you that setting realistic RRP figures on the Falcon would go a long way for the private buyer ... but it would have no impact on fleets, hence the numbers would not go up by thousands, more like hundreds a month.

I drove the last gen camry hybrid and if it actually had a boot that wasn't compromised by the battery it would be on my short list. 90% of the fleet cars at my work are camry hybrid the rest are commodore lpg's and utes. Plus you have a look at what you get technology wise compared to a falcon and commodore price wise and no wonder people are going to them.

I am sure they would have sold more than 20000 of them if they could get the stock. Most people don't wat to wait 6-12 months for their new car. I know I wouldn't, so I rang around all the dealers to find the one that I was after.

It's easy to say Toyota's fleet helps Toyota dominate because it's true. But with regards to the recent performance of Toyota's Australian built vehicles, you might say (fact) that it was because of the low interest finance deals on offer.

Keep in mind, these offers were not on offer to any fleet customer, so go figure..

Toyota wanted to sell 40,000 vehicles out of Altona in 2012. I'm not sure if they achieved this, but I can tell you most cars were out of stock by end of December. It was a big task, and one that has paid off in spades.

Whether they'll continue on into 2013, well, they won't, because it's not part of the plan hence 0% becoming 2.9% - they laid off 300+ workers and the amount of cars built in 2013 will reflect that on the numbers of exports and overall Australian sales.

Ford cut FG II prices when it was released. Some models RRP was cut by over 4k.

My camry is fully equipped and even has reverse camera, 7 airbags, and push-button start. It handles better than a VE, has excellent build quality, roomy. The Hybrid Synergy Drive is amazing 0-100kmh in 7.8 secs and I am averaging 5.7 litres per 100km in the city. Having said all that I wouldnt pay much more than 32 grand in todays competitive market.

Falcon Ecoboost and Commodore Omega should start at $29,990.

I have only ever bought Falcons and recently a Commodore, but I think I am done with them until they get their heads out of their a*** in terms of their pricing.
How hard did you go shopping for an EcoBoost? Falcon EcoBoost actually $29,900 and a G6 for $32,900 .... before negotiation. Did you just go by list price?

So what you are saying then, these are better pricing that the Camry? I would actually. (Knox Ford and Etheridge advertised pricing prior to Xmas)

Sorry but not getting these exaggerated pricing that's being quoted around here. If you are serious, there are some damn good deals to be had with finance packages that are literally quite stupid! Whats the go??????

Seeing as the theoretical number for locally built Fords is 2220 this month December wasn't to bad. I guess that's why Broady didn't pull up early for shutdown.

Falcon's numbers has nothing to do with pricing.

It all comes down to image.

The general population sees Toyota as 'reliable'. The general public see Falcons as dinosaur, bogan vehicles. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

Ford are starting to improve in the marketing department. I will admit that it does get a little disconcerting with the way the general public view Ford. I've always said that Ford should play nasty in their advertising. Call out the misconceptions and be obvious in adverts about the downfalls of other makes compared to their models.

For December, Falcon and territory combined sales are just under 2300,
if you figure on 300-400 utes then that's around 2500-2600.

Seeing that Broady is now producing at around 3200/mth, that sounds about right...
The important point is that there will be no excess stock to clear, so 2012 plates will be limited.

A new ED xr6 falcon in 1994 was $36, 467.
That's roughly two and a half grand more than an FG. ..and 19 years of cpi increases have passed since then...
So for people saying ford need to pull their "heads out of their *****" for pricing... I reckon we are getting an ok deal atm.

That is exactly Ford's and Holden's problem, they still think it is 1994.

Speaking of 1994, a cheap flight between Melbourne and Sydney was $700, and a nice house was $100,000. Comparing prices to 1994 is moronic, it is 2013 where a Mazda 3 is 20 grand and a 7 seater diesel 4wd can be yours for 40 grand. A Falcon or Commodore should be smack bang in the middle of those prices.
