I had just finished cleaning my car and took it for a drive, that involves mostly nice areas and a terrible drive down low-life scum road to get onto the main road. I see all these items in front of me illuminating green. Then all I see is green, these idiots while I was driving 60k/h got me in the eyes with a laser!
I pulled over to both clear my vision and ask WTF is up. So I pulled a u turn and put the window down, some explicit words later and they came to the car, it was a bunch of ulehs. The situation escalated so I figured i'd get my words in and hope they learn, then leave quickly. He tried saying he was trying to buy it and wanted to know how far it got, BS! They thought it would be funny to dazzle oncoming traffic. They soon calmed down and I told them that it was incredibly dangerous and to NOT shine a laser into drivers eyes. They surprisingly apologised and moved on. I drove past their house 5min later and they had gone inside, did they actually learn something? I doubt it, but come on! A laser in drivers eyes! 1 hour later and my eyes are actually hurting, I can still see this damn large dot. I wish I didn't confront them and called the police instead because they left after the confrontation, hmm... Justice has unfortunately not been served, doubt the police would of done much anyway. |

actually the police take this seriously . it is a criminal offense in NSW and probably other states too. we lost 2 workers at my depot an apprentice was doing it to one of the refueler and he warned him not to, 10 minutes later the apprentice did it again and the refueler thumped him. the apprentice was sacked for the laser incident and the refueler was sacked for violence in the workplace

There was a guy on the news 3 nights ago that had this happen and lost his eye sight in his right eye.
Dob the mongrels in, make a report for assault.

Its dangerous stuff, I shouldn't have confronted them but its too late for anything else. If I ever see them doing it again, i'll make sure they get a visit from the police. How anyone could be this stupid is beyond me.

Regardless of what you did or said it is still your duty of care to report the incident.
Think of this: a young mother of two on her way back from child care picks up the kids, is blinded by these "tools" and runs into a tree killing all onboard. Sounds harsh doesn't it Morals or not, please report this incident, these people are still criminals. .

The police take it quite seriously here in Sydney. They caught one guy who shone a laser at planes coming in to land at Sydney Airport, he's now doing 4 years in gaol. Recently they caught a guy who shone it at a police helicopter. Coming up for court soon.
I think you should report it.

I'm more then happy to report it. Shall I give the local station a ring or go in tomorrow. Would they want to know the address of the idiots?

Ok, I drove by the location with the company vehicle as it had the GPS. It estimated the address, hope it was correct. Rang the station and reported it, the officer didn't seem to care until I mentioned I was driving when it struck me. In which case she asked some questions, I explained what the house looks like, has the lights on etc. Told her it had been sometime since the incident and such.
She said they would send a van off now. What can they do anyway? Search for the laser? |

Even if nothing comes of it, they will get a scare when the coppers come knocking at the door. Perhaps the parents will step in and do what they think is necessary after the visit.

I had a laser pointer, but never shon it at anyone and used it inside mainly. Some people are just idiots and they are the reason "fun" things are banned

In QLD at least shining a light into someones eyes is an assault....
Its also illegal to shine these things at aircraft (federal offence) and most states have banned them.... Shining the thing into your eyes is extremely dangerous to your eyesight as well and can cause perminant damage. Its not a laughing matter. Hope you report it to Police.

Unless these things are used during a lecture, or in a similar situation, I fail to see why they should be in anyone's possesion to be honest.
Having something like this 'for fun' simply indicates the owner will use it at some point, and it inevitably involves shining the laser into the eyes of a person or a pet. If people are so easily entertained by watching a coloured dot moving around on a wall, or piece of furniture, they need to get off their backside and find something else to do.

A decent one at night shines a beam, not just a dot and looks very cool. Astronomers use them for pointing out start clusters etc. |

As a kid we never had access to these high powered lasers, good on you for trying to educate them, but in future straight to the police. You dont know what kind of crazy lurks in people.

People that do this are stupid and should have the book thrown at them.
But people use for proper reasons. It can be very dangerous pointing it in a person’s eye. With Lasers you can own a 1MW laser, but even these small laser can still do damage. |

It was great fun to use at parties, but one day it glitched and produced a static beam of light, hit my brother right in the eye. It was incredibly painful. I dissassembled it and threw it away. Some of those cheap chinese lasers can be very dangerous, should have more regulation here. In the US the laser I had would have been multiple times over the legal limit. This laser actually put a black mark on the white wall when it produced a static beam, in fact just looking at the dot was enough to dazzle you. To think that anyone could get there hands on it. |
