How long was it out of rego for?
Up QLD way, does rego include third party insurance? Sorry, but i have absolutely no sympathy for people driving around without third party insurance.

Rightfully so, if she hit me in my car, insurance would not cover it and i would be lucky to get a pay out. Let alone if she killed or injured someone in an unregistered vehicle...........

Good on them, they should fine people heavily for unregistered cars.

Ah, pfft. Lesson learnt the hard way.
In Sydney NSW HP sit on side of highways, just sit there. Letting the camera's check plates and automatically booking... When bored they drive around car parks and book some more. Suck it up. As for payouts, MCIS levies and the gravy train of insurance, it's totally unnecessary. Don't want an injury don't go near the road. We shouldn't be paying for everyone else's compo bludge. Let natural selection sort these issues out..

Yep, Since they tossed plate recognition into patrols up here the M1 every Saturday and or Sunday morning is lined with unregistered vehicles who have copped a defect to boot.

What irks me is that insurance is tied with registration, let the registration lapse, your insurance is void; let the insurance lapse, your registration is useless.
If we are to have a registration and insurance scheme, it needs to be such that the registration and insurance follow the driver; it makes no sense to own for example four cars, pay four lots of insurance and registration when one can only drive a single car at any one time. Not only that, registration and insurance need to be uncoupled from their incestuous relationship; one should not have any bearing on the other. |

There was bit on the news here in SA about the new fines....Apparently it can be $2,500 for driving unregistered.
Even the police are not happy about the extra amount and think it is not fair, the opportunity would be given to register the vehicle on the spot to try and alleviate the huge fine.

It needs to be pretty hefty fine otherwise more people wouldn't even bother registering their car than there is already.
It should be double or even tripple the rego cost. See how many unregistered cars there are after they have done one of those blitzs with the number plates readers. I know in this case she has just forgot but as has been said if she had of been in an accident it would be a world of hurt. It's a cheap lesson in that regard. |

Wow, some pretty harsh comments here guys. Yeah sure the situation could of been a lot worse and I agree that it's a fairly easy thing to remember for a bloody good reason, but have some damn composure!

Gee she forgot, it happens. It happened to a friend of mine too, rego plate scanner picked him up ($1200 experience). Sometimes people have a lot going on and it's easy to overlook things that might seem obvious to the rest of us. If she went out driving knowing she had no rego, then that's a different story. Plenty of scumbags out there doing the wrong thing on purpose. But if it's an honest mistake, I guess you just cop it on the chin, no need for others to rub it in.

Absolutely moronic. Madness.
How anyone could do this is beyond me, totally deserving of a large fine if caught. We are talking about the girl choosing an SS over the superior Ford options, yeah? |

We in Queensland will have no Rego sticker as well by the end of the year. csv8 I know it was a simple mistake but people are right. No matter what that's one thing you should make sure of, is that you keep your rego current. Because if she had an accident, then she's not covered by any insurance. So if somebody died in that accident, I hate to think what she could of got done for. This is something you shouldn't have put up mate, as with a jury like these guy, you'll hang every time.

I agree with most posters here that there's not much excuse for forgetting to register your car. However the OP's rail against Campbell Newman as money grabbing is off base in this case.
A hugely escalating problem in Qld and probably in other States as well, is the ever increasing action of low-lifes to drive around in unregistered cars. If these dropkicks collide with you, the consequences can be very expensive, with voided insurance and other financial problems being thrust upon you through no fault of your own. |

For the first time & unintentionally forgotten its a bit harsh, second time... well it is what it is. Slightly of topic but you can drive around most states unlicensed in registered cars, injure, kill someone, hurt yourself and get a payout if it is not your fault. They payout will pay for the fine. This happened to a dip**** relation may years ago. He should of got jack. There is a minority that do it with purpose but it always will affect the majority.
