Rouge bike riders and accountability

I’ve seen several dash cam vids where cyclists or illegal dirt bike riders have crashed into cars, resulting in some form of damage. It appears as the innocent car driver takes in what has just happened, the rider picks up their bike and takes off.

Theoretically what can a car owner do in this situation to hold the bike rider accountable, can they detain them by force and call the police…
Can they prevent them leaving the scene and demand sighting of ID for their insurance company to chase up?
In the case of no injuries are police even interested in attending the scene and holding them accountable?

Makes me sleep better at night I drive a $2k shitbox into town, if something like this were to happen.

It varies by state, what one can do.

In NSFW and VIC pretty sure you can detain a person if they’ve committed a crime - but not simply on suspicion thereof. I’m unclear on the initial distinction between criminal offences and simple statutory offences in some of these situations - for example as in, leaving the scene of an accident while failing to exchange details may be one category or the other…

I do recall pulling a bloke out of his car (nice EH Holden btw) and into Terrigal police station once for undertaking us on the left while we were riding on a wide shoulder coming into town.

Poor stupid bloke got himself charged with dangerous driving when he ran his mouth off at the cops, telling them we were turning right and we don't have any rights to use the road.
Most of Terrigal Police were all riders.

Attitude test total failure.

There is a law in NSW and Vic that states all cyclist now need to carry ID introduced just before all these E bikes started being popular.

I didn't realise bike riders were rouge, the ones I see wear black, fluoro and other colours.

My advice is that if someone hit you with their motorbike and then took off - let them go. Fair chance they are high on cocaine or ice or something. And this means they are irrational, hyped, and prone to violence.

If the person is injured (say an internal injury) and restraining that person aggravates that injury, then the Good Samaritan laws probably don't apply.

A family member spent a number of years doing emergency work in a small rural hospital The stories told of irrational motorists/bikers/truckers on drugs, post accident in Emergency, makes my hair stand on end. Like bones poking out of skin but the injured person wanting to fight with doctors and nurses (and no police around to control the aggression).

A dash cam, even a cheap one, is a good evidence collection tool. Easier to fill out insurance paperwork than to spend time in hospital due to a fight with druggie.

Yeah nah, if someone dumps their bike into your car and bolts, just let ’em go. Odds are they’re cooked or just wild. Dash cam does more work than getting into a fight ever will.

I've had a couple of Chinese people on unlicensed mini-motorbikes just pull out of a side road and cut people off with no care for road rules...

They're a bloody menace. Since I'm part-dirtbag, part of me just wants them to be knocked off and taught a lesson - otherwise they'll keep pulling this shit.
