new cam before the end of the year

hey ppl i was just wandering what is involved in putting a cam in i have an eb but i know all about mechanics but i can follow instruction from a manuel how much would i get charged to fit a cam would one of you guys wanna do it for some bucks how long does it take cheers

it took me about 2 hours,,but i take my time,,basicly remove power steering pump and place to one side,,remove rocker cover,,release tension on timeing chain,,undo the bolts holding the cam gear on and lift the cam out,,if useing a wade cam put extra shims in replace cam,replace cam gear,,tighten to specs and put it all back on,,easier when you actually do.

theres no need to release the tension on timing chain unless you're changing the cam gear. all you have to do is take the rocker cover off, unbolt cam gear bolt, unbolt/remove rocker gear, slide cam gear off and get someone to hold it up, swap cams and slide the cam gear back on, and then bolt everything back up.. and shim up the lifters if needed for a regrind cam... pretty easy.

well as everybody says,,release the tension in the chain,,i don't bother myself but before anybody says anything i put it in..and the way you said is what i do..

hey guys what would be the best/cost effective cam to put in.

I dont want to put veiner gear in, just something that will drop straight in no worries. Ive cracked the sads with my car and when I get the vavle stem seals fix I want them to put a different cam in.

EL? some wade spec?

probably one of the wade 1004 profile cams... cheap and can drop straight in with them running good in most cars... rarely they might run worse and need to be dialled in but most times can drop in and run good

good for around 130rwkw with a stock head.

wade have a new series of cams now. the 1600 series. 1604 is a bit better than a 1004 and their brand new [not on the site yet] 1638 [or 1636, its that new] is gonna be great. nearly .490 of lift, similar to the 1604 but its got a decided lump in it that sounds great apprently. and you can run it on stock springs.

130rwkw i pulled with pacemaker extractors, and redback 2.5inch exhaust.. should still get close with stock exhaust i guess. That was with a wade 1004 112

one of my brother friends is in the process of putting in one of the new wade cams the 1636 so will be interesting to see how that goes. i think only 2 or 3 people have used it so far.

Once I get my exhaust done, I'm half-thinking I should put a cam in also. Let us know how the 1636 goes mate; it sounds alright.

yeah well I have the 2.5 exhaust with one straight through muffler (im actually calling the exhaust place now about putting the rear resenator back in).

The only engine mods I will have will be a cam (wade xxxx) and the exhaust. Do you think the cam will be fine without extractors?

Also neb is the 1636 for a manual and how much does it cost?

The cam will be fine without extractors... I know walkinshaw was running a wade cam for a long time with no extractors and was still making good power.

1636 is fine for auto or manual. My bro's friend grechie is putting it into an auto ea (with ed engine and 4spd). It's not going yet having a few problems I think maybe its a problem with the lifters. You also need to add an extra shim under each lifter.

There are prices for wade cams on fordmods.. well prices for fordmod members.

Regrind cams from wade are about $120 change over or $420 for a billit cam outright.

ay guys, i got the 1636 in after finding out the plugs were wet, its got increased torque down low!, i do beilive i need the gear to adjust the cam, and advanced timings, but this cam rocks, its also a bit lumpy on idle after u run it in...
