Got my **** handed to me on the way home tonight by a stock 1994 Lancer a chick was driving!
Basically pulled up at a set of lights, the road was merging into a single lane about 50 metres down and on green we both floored it. She got the jump, I caught up but she still pulled away. Later on she she allowed me to pass but gave me a little snicker as I went by. SHAMED!!! :

I have MPI straight gas and it's all been tuned professionally. I was told by the guy who tuned it at AUZGAS that I should be making as much power as I would be on petrol with my system. Now cop this, I was bottled on Saturday night by not one, but two cars I thought I could beat within minutes of each other.
One being a VW Bora and the other a....ah...um...1.8 (or was it 6?) EFI Camira, the ones that look like EAs from the front if you squint and nod ur head really fast. Man it sucked, but I don't care because I haven't tried to make my car fast yet. I only converted to MPI because I thought it might solve my converter freezing problem and that I might be able to get better economy. Sundeep |

So MPFI wont make the car ALOT faster? Or will it?
I need a quick solution to end this pain. By the way, whats BLOWBY and MPI Straight Gas? :

Quick Solution, MPFI Conversion. Also try changing your diff ratio to something higher like 3:23LSD or SS

Hey Sundeep did the MPFI conversion give you much better performance and economy?
I'm also on the quest to find better gas milage hence the thermofan and headers modifications.

Start with the MPFI as it's the cheaper option and the diff if you want acceleration on the cheap, a diff shop would be ya best, changing ratio's isnt exactly a backyard job for the unexperienced.
Me and my mates CFI's kept up with stockish VL's and all we did to them was pacemaker extracters and mandrel bent pipes and jammed a huge filter into the tennis racket, both were 5spds.

It's not the CFI (majorly), most small manual cars (especially the new ones) aren't that slow off the line. Being smaller, lighter and having the advantage of the manual they really squirt off the line. Changing to MPFI and a shorter diff ratio (3.7s!) would help the EA loads.

yeah dont be to phased about it...i occassionaly drive my gf's barina, and its pretty easy to launch hard and get a few people off the line (relatively speaking).
Do what everyone else has said, dont waste your money on cfi, no point really.

I'm guessing your Falcon is auto, perhaps a manual conversion might be worth considering if that's the case...

My old 3speeder EA spac could munch on most 4cyl from the lights. Even beat a Lexus IS200. Even stayed pretty much dead even with a Cordia Turbo up until 120km or so then he started pulling.
Did kick then shit out of a stock looking VL from the lights, got a length or so almost immediatly, then I heard this whistle and he flew past me :( Think I had more fun from the lights in my old EA than my ED.

My stock EA CFI (although I am beginning to think that it's more worked than I think) can keep up with most things, even with a 3 spd auto. I'm gonna have to post some engine pics and some underneath shots to see what you guys think...

haha, guys, the 3 speed and the 4 speed are the same.
It's usually the diff that kills us 3 speeders. Damn 2.77 ss. :countdown |

Ok guys, my EA CFI is a 4sp auto and it takes me around 13 secs to get from 0-100 on a good day. What gives?
Would a shift kit be cheaper to go with instead of a better diff?

It'd be cheaper, but i doubt you'll get the same benifits.
The shift kit only makes you the gear changes quicker, while the diff will get your kp.h up quicker. Go talk to a diff shop, and see what they say. It costs nothing to ask

...and if there isnt its a good excuse.
Just to give you an idea. www.geocities.com/falconfacts/ lists the performance as follows: Falcon S 3.9L multi-point sedan, 5 speed manual Top speeds in gears 1st: 57km/h 2nd: 93km/h 3rd: 144km/h 4th: 200km/h 5th: 210km/h 0-100km/h: 8.5 seconds Standing 400m: 15.8 seconds But being an auto, and CFI it would differ.

Yes the CFI auto does "differ" alright.
The CFI is a weak point, as is the diff. Being auto is not necessarily a bad thing, but 3.7 is probably an optimal ratio, not the junk Ford installed from the factory. It's no fun being beaten by cars with half the power and nowhere near half the weight, and the diff ratio is the biggest reason why it happens. |

Check that your accelerator cable is opening the throttle all the way, they do stretch and you end up loosing a significant amount of power.
Also what rpm does the Auto change at when youve got your foot flat? (if youve got a tacho)

Yeah, myold CFI EA didnt have much trouble eating alot of 4cyl rice. I even stayed with a R33 GTS-T up until 60km/h, at which point his turbo hit boost. And i had a mate in the car and a boot full of beer.
