Default Chrysler 300C

impressive considering its only an ohv and 5.7l..."The V8 makes 250 kW and a prodigious 525 Nm of torque"

it has to haul around 1873kg too.

how is 250kW out of a 5.7L impressive? Also how is 525Nm "prodigious"? Yes it is more than a standard BOSS engine, but the BOSS is a smaller capacity. Plus it is only 5% more torque than a BOSS260 which registers at 500Nm.

Sorry - really not all that impressed by the engine, or the exterior design of this vehicle.

I was going to wait for one of these to come before i bought my F6 but i thought they would be priced higher.. $59K is not too bad actually... guess it depends on the build quality and handling..

I think a supercharged black one running 22's with limo tint, dumped on its *** with a pumping stereo would be the goods.. prolly make me start saying words like "aks", "trippin" , "Ho" and "chillin" though haha

I thought the pricing was pretty reasonable, there was an ad for them in today's advertiser (although somewhat shadowed by the 1/2 page colour pic of the F6).

I'm not terribly impressed by the look of the thing. Although i guess it's fair to say it's very "chrysler"!!!

I'm sure the engine is an absolute joy to operate.

Top gear reviewed one of these verses a supercharged jag and the monaro (ls1).

It came last.

Apparently its longer and wider then a Landcruiser too!

Everone seems to be roasting them.

I love them, I reckon they look damn hot, inside and out. Whether id buy one over a BF Fairlane G8 if I had the money, i dont know

You know the thing is Fairlane sized? So what has Ford got to compete with that? G220... 220kW 470Nm. Oh, well, BF has 230kW 500Nm.

And its cheaper then the Fairlane G8 if I'm not mistaken.

I like the 300C alot, it is a very cool car. I was actually hoping that DaimlerChrysler would shut down Mitsubishi Australia and build those in the plant's instead... keeps all the jobs and its a 1 billion times better car.

I wonder if the SRT-8 will make it here...

cheaper on RRP than a G8. However the discounts that you get for wanting to buy a G8 are astonishing. Far more than you could get on this car.

Besides, 300C i reckon is ugly as. So we will have to agree to disagree on that point. I'd love to upgrade a G8 with a set of XR headlamps and an XR front bar. Bobtail spoiler on the rear deck, some 18/19" wheels, big brakes, and black tint.

Love the look of them! I thought they'd be a lot more pricey than $59k

I hope Chrysler does well with the 300C in Australia :sm_headba

And they should bring back the Valiant :P

I love the 300C.. I hopefully plan on buying one later next year as a company car..

I know it's all personal taste but i LOVE the look of them, love everything about them.

I wouldn't go the whole 'black on 22s' thing with them though.. a set of tough looking deep dish rims.. gunmetal or black with a polished dish.. 19" or so.. leave it at that.. don't need anything else done to them!

I think it's a very nice looking car, and with that price, might just sell a few. V6 would be struggling with 1900kg though...

Steffo, scary I agree. that is a nice looking car. I'd love to see it in the flesh and see what sort of manual transmission they put behind it. But it has the looks where the 300C doesn't.

I guess i'm a 'sporty' car kinda person.

For me, the best looking of the 3 Cars built on that platform is the Dodge Magnum wagon.... they look soooo HAWT!

You still missed my point that it was only 5% more torque. Hmm I can't recall either stats about when peak torque is made, I dare say that the G8 makes it earlier in the rev range. Just how a luxo barge should.

They are a great car, but like all americans they might have so go, but when it comes to dynamics and interior quality its lacking.

I love the look, the engine is good enough, but for a luxury car the interior lacks craftmanship. Pity really.

Still, something to give ghia and calais owners something to think about!

Well if it is unchanged from the BA, the 3V has a 5500rpm limiter.

Depends on many things. I think it's good that Ford have some serious competition as it can only mean that Ford will build a better car, but I wonder how he 300C with its small windows and ultra american appearance will be received at the time of purchase. Definately a contender in the statesman/fairlane war but I guess with its looks it's one of those vehicles that either you love it or hate it - much like the AU lwb's when they came out.

They will definately sell but another potential sticking point could be price and availability of parts/service etc. The magnum as mentioned earlier is definately a car that polarizes opinions in the states, and I should imagine it would do the same here. One thing is undeniable though, Chrysler do make well engineered and built cars.

Click the link to the Fast-Autos site, it has performance info for the 300C.

0-100km/h in 5.3 sec
0-160km/h in 13.4 sec
1/4 Mile in 13.9 sec @ 102mph (163.2km/h)
Speed Limited to 130mph (208km/h)

Weight is 4046lbs (1839kg).

Unless the new Fairlane G8 magically manages to accelerate like a GT or XR8, it won't beat the 300C. Methinks they've followed the typical American manufacturer trend as of late to post totally bullpoo power figures.

Yep, our 2003 Cobra makes 390hp... but its not our fault that it puts down 380rwhp when you dyno it :yeees:

4000rpm is a fairly high peak torque location for a large capacity V8, especially in such a heavy sedan. But then figures and specifications can say anything, the real test will be if anyone drives one... Don't think Chrysler would let me Would be an interesting comparison between the Ford and the Holden equivelent.

yeah i was gonna bring that up, seems pretty quick for such a heavy car and after seeing it at the creek and other race meets i thought it looked pretty slow and it seemed as though the guy was giving it some, not thrashing it but not pussy footing either. the gear changes sounded like they took forever.

i guess ill have to go test one and find out for myself.

I've seen a few 300C sedans and wagons when I was in U.S recently. The 300C is based on an older Mercedes platform. I especially like the performance versions and would love a Dodge Magnum.

If you want the best 0-100 and 0-400 best buy the locally produced stuff. The 300C doesn't have much space a Fairlane, a Commodore feels bigger. They are worth considering if you want something different with reasonable performance and character. There are also plenty of after market bits in the U.S to improve the looks and performance.

It’s good to see some more choice, hopefully they sell a few and bring out more models.

GT's are the same weight and peak at 4500rpm....

What absolute peak figures don't show is what it's making prior to that. I'm guessing it's got a fair lump of that torque available from 3000ish.
