Don't know if anyone has seen this or used it for that matter, but I stumbled across it today, downloaded it and was quite impressed.

ObjectDock is a program that lets you organize your short-cuts and running tasks onto an extremely customizable dock that sits on your desktop.

actually, this was available a long time before osx was around. In fact, if you really want to get into it, go look at LiteStep.
