Question Aftermarket stereo and steerign wheel controls...

hey guys,
Was in Repco yesterday and had the urge to buy a new head unit cos the stocko one was starting to annoy the hell outta me with burnt cds etc. So i got one of the Pioneer ones on special BUT...

Has anyone been able to install an aftermarket head unit and still be able to use the audio controls on the steering wheel in AUIIs??

Yes, already been discussed. You'll need a Stinger Adapter. Autobahn or whatever can install it for around $150-200.

Cheaper alternative is to only use CD-R Audio CDs as opposed to regular CD-R's when copying music. See this thread for details:

Wonder if this will work with the I-Pod compatible head units..

Saw in JB the other day, Kenwood headunits (and others Im sure), have a an adapter kit that that you can interface with your I-Pod.. Then you just plug in and the headunit controls the I-Pod. I would then assume that if you had the Stinger adapter, that would all work as one...

I was told the Pioneer units didn't have a control available to let the s/w controls work ... hmmm ... might look around now.

They should definately work, walk into any Autobahn store and ask them (if you have a Pioneer Adapter). I think it was $160 supplied and fitted. So for $160, I'm only gonna get the adapter when i have some spare cash floating around. Not really a priority.

They should work with the ipods. If to control the ipods you use the same controls (forward/next), it should work.

cool .... I'll go an ask about it then ... cos I used my s/w controls all the time ... I am now getting used to the remote now .. but nowhere near as easy as using the steering wheel controls.
