Default Leaking auto transmission

Hey,

i have an 91 EA with a 4 speed box. the mo-fo is leaking, as far as i could tell it was from the trans pan. so i pulled it off cleaned it, and siliconed it heaps and replace the pan.

no difference at all, still leaking. it doesn't look like its coming from the oil seal, the only other thing is the arm on the side of the trans.

question --> any common leakage spots for an ea auto trans???

Clean the auto properly with degreaser and then check - remember trans fluid is a lot cheaper than the fix....always!. Maybe a can of "auto trans stop leak" will also work.

Where about are you in melbourne mate i take my tranny to a guy in moorabbin gear-a-matics its called they fix up my tranny and they do an awesome job for a great price too!!!!!

it will be the rear seal they always leak eventually, bit of a pain to replace it, but it should solve the problem usually.

yea, i got the same prob on my s-pac. Its leaking from the selector shaft seal. Pain in the bum coz it keeps leaking onto the garage floor.

will almost put my money on the rear main gbox seal, (where the tailshaft plugs into the extension housing on the back of the box).
its a $4 dollar part to, and can usually be done in under an hr if you dont stuff around..
If it is the seal, pray that the little sleave/bushing hasnt gone up the shaft into the extension housing.. cause even if you replace the rear main seal it will still leak..
So the extension housing has to come off(4 bolts, rear gbox mount, exhaust braket), the sleave has to come out, extension housing back on, the sleave then inserted back in, new seal, then tailshaft back in.. etc etc.. i usually got a screwdriver and dinged the top of the sleave so it could "lock" itself into the extension housing.

usually happened when gbox was low on oil, the sleave wasnt getting enough lubrication and then would spin free and up the shaft.. causing it to leak which would eventually stuff the rear main seal..
