I've just purchased a 1990 TN ELANTE MAGNA for $100. Original one owner 180,000km, manual, fuel unjected and very straight. All it needs is a new clutch fork, clutch and oil leaks fixed. I'll try to get some pics up.

Not an overly bad car. The 2.6L astron engine is pretty terrible though. |

I had a magna. Think it was an 86 model. Can't remember. Nothing but trouble. Especially with the engine. Oil pressure seemed to be an ongoing issue as well as overhead cam seals. They wear out and you get very noisy engine . replaced 2 in the 3 years I owned it.

Honestly don't see the point buying a $100 car. Cost aside, a $100 car can end up costing more than a $5000 car by the end of the 3-5 years you'll probably own it.

We got my old XD for $750, and it was in perfect condition
My Dad's old ute (early model courier) cost $1500, 14 years ago. He's just sold it for $3500. And he got a Skyline for a case of beer. (admitedly it's a 1980 or so model)

a mate bought a HZ ute off the ABC when they finished shooting some programme. premier front, 4spd 253. 12 months rego, looked like an old workhorse but re-registerable, no rust. $150 did $100 work to it and sold it with no rego for $1250.
then a Mk1 escort. poo brown auto 1300? coupe. 3 months rego cost $50 (tranfer fee) sold $1750 through ebay i think.

I picked up a VW Kombi for a 2nd hand CD player. It was registred and even had a new battery. I drove it around for 6 months and even drove it from Bris to Tamworth and back - it only broke down once, outside Arimidale when the coil lead got sucked into the fan belt. I sold it($200) as it was taking more oil than fuel and the roof was about to fall off.

I hate Magna's...we bought our 1993 Magna executive for $1850 2 years ago with rego and that was a rip off. My father in law and my uncle both have similar models and we all have the same problem...the blasted car shakes so badly its not funny. No amount of changing engine mounts or even replacing the engine fixed the problem. Its worse in reverse or with the a/c on. Apparently its a common problem with the magnas. They are a horrible car to drive. We recently bought an EA falcon stationwagon as a work horse to travel with all the family at once (it has 8 seats). But we have ended up putting a little money into the ea to get it all nice and use the magna as a work horse instead. The EA drives so much nicer.

My dad paid just over $25,000 (they retail for $40,000) drive away for a TL VR-X Limited Edition Magna, with warranty until 2010. It has all the Rali-Art Trimmings, and has made a perfect car for his mid-life crisis, and for Mum to drive to work in. I wanted them to get a Subaru Liberty, but they are happy with their decision. The car is great to drive, Manual, it may be Front Wheel Drive, but there is no torque steer, or Buck and Weave. The 3.5 is smooth as, and goes like the clappers.
It is faster than my XR6 was, and I prefer the Magna over my AU XR.

i dont understand why people bash the magnas or even now the 380, they are a decent car. ive had a few for A-B driving. the build qual is nothing great but has always been better than my falcons that goes for in and out. this is from my experiences if you have different veiws well... clap.
the 4 cyl was crap but the 6s were/are fine. the only thing ive got against magnas is the fact that they are fwd, lol... Quote:

I snatched an XF fairmont ghia that's in tip top condition, it came with a hayman resse heavy duty tow bar, a rebuilt engine and auto. All of the electrics work properly which includes electric mirrors, windows, central locking, cruise control, air con and all the other stuff like the reading lights for the front and rear passangers. It came out with the factory lsd, rust proofing and discs all round. All i had to do was put new tyres on those traditional snow flakers and hand over the $300 for the car. Started staight away without even a jump start. Hmmm, maybe i'll turbocharge it. To be continued.

A bloke knocked on my front door bought a corona for $50 off me wanted to put a 1jz supra engine in etc and told him its fffffd it had a bent chassis only good for the tip any way he took it .
Anyway the bosses old man (guy who sold it to me originally) told me he found it on the side of the road for a while near his place before it got towed. anyway you could start it with a screwdriver so i should have put 1/2 a tank of fuel in it and gone and bashed it some more crzy fun that would have been.

i bought an XD wagon at the RTA tenders once for $10
it was left on the side of the F3 and ended up at the tenders it was the trashiest XD ive ever seen. i looked inside and saw the 4speed shifter and thought i will tender $10 on that and if i get it ive got a spare box for my XF ute funny thing was when i went to pick it up a mate said chuck a battery in it and see if you can drive it up on the trailer,so i poped the hood and my jaw dropped thats right it was a clevo under there complete with a big holley alloy intake manifold alloy rocker covers and headers the moter was sh1t but i used the car as a doner for an XW a had at the time. |

A Chrysler Centura that needed a battery and a distributor, with 3 months rego for $65 and sold for $330, 2 TD Cortinas at auction for $65,delivered (used to build speedway cars) and a 1967 Dodge Phoenix Hard-top with a 440 Magnum for $500 (in '87). These are my cheapest buys,i've had some horrendous mistakes as well, 4 speed HR $1200, FC Holden,12 months rego $375,traded in on a V8 Valiant.
