Umm, it's 2006 matey.

I hope it's June. I get my P's May 30th.

It will be 4 years, not 5. 1 year green plates. 3 year red. Still discussing the banning of turbo/supercharge/V8's.

No towing, no mobiles (even handsfree kits) and a fair few other changes.

I am hoping no Banning of V8/Turbo comes in as i have just recently arranged to buy my parents AUII XR8 a car that is only just legal at the moment if this falls through me and my parents arn't in a desirable position.

4 Years on my P's yay!!! great Just what i needed, maybe i will just move to a state with a premier that has an Idea and has a state that runs well without leaching off it's motorists for all it's money.

If this goes through i may well be appliing for the Police force in WA instead of Vic, as im sick of Mr Brack's BS regulations

Hrrm Great June just in time for my August B'day...

^^I agree. Personally I think the power to weight ratio is far better than the new ones they suggested. I reckon Vic isn't doing TOO bad in terms of high performance crashes anyway.

The towing thing is just stupid.. You need to learn how to tow a trailer sometime. Someone who's had their full licence for ten years but never towed a trailer is going to have trouble with it in tight situations.

How about teaching people to drive, and tow, instead..

But that would mean the goverment would have to spend some $$$ now wouldn't it..

I would love to see the number of High powered vehical crashes that actually happen because all i keep seeing is VN/VS commo's with Rims and lowerd on the news and that isn't what i would call a High powered vehical now...

they need to ban turbo vehicles as they are easier to bring over the power to weight on the sly... v8'z are harder to bring over the limit without being noticable. vicroads actually run a check on rego transfer and won't allow ppl under 21 to buy a high powered vehicle thats why there isn't as many incidents here

True, i've never towed anything before, and im sure i'd suck at backing a trailer into a carpark. They should at least allow towing for people on red plates.

Banning of turbo powered vehicle is one thing I support. These these got faster than most v8's!

Extra year on P's only means you get extra year of hooning!
It mould make more sence if they considered other changes.
*retesting after P's
*Comprehensive testing

A blanket an on turbos would be a bad idea - we'll just end up with the same farce as NSW where a Smart 660cc turbo car is banned, or turbo diesels banned. Perhaps cars that are within a certain range of the limit should be banned, in recognition that they could be boosted further relatively easily to make them comfortably exceed the power/weight limit.

So a SAAB low boost turbo or Audi A4 low boost turbo is OK, but a true performance turbo engine that is close to the limit isn't

I was only informed that the car i had bought was on the restricted vehicle list, and if i drove it on my P's i would be breaking the law. I drove it for the last year on my P's and ended up doing the engine up in it. What car you might ask? a 250 powered, 1974 TC cortina.

Banning v8's, turbo's and supercharged cars is stupid. Why dont they just train the learners better?

I believe here in Victoria you aren't allowed to tow anything or have weight restrictions until you are off your P plates.

Because many learners are young and anti-authoritorian. They don't like being told what to do, especially by the government or the police. It's the whole culture around getting a licence that needs to be influenced and changed. A driver's licence is a privelige, not a right as many people see it. You don't truly appreciate it until you have it taken from you.

Most of the Anti-Authoritarian as you put it, young people that i have seen / talked to, still manage to get rather excited about learning drive... If they HAVE to learn something more than 'who goes first at a round-a-bout' to get their licence, they will learn it.

Something like a Defensive Driving course, which gives you a chance to throw your car around and have a bit of fun, while learning how to brake correctly, cornering, and generally looking out for other people on the road; rather than looking at your speedo. Its fun and educational.

And you can tow on your P's, just not on your L's.

Another question, I'm discussing this with jjm, but if you have your p's before June 2006 then do you go on the old system?

It would make more sence for it to be brought in the 1/1/07 as this would mean that 3 of my mates would be off their P's one year before me just because they were born a few months earlier!

Im really sweating on this V8 ban thing as i was getting Mums car very cheap, so i don't have a huge amount of money away, would Mr Bracks and his group of Stooges like me to drive a 1985 corolla instead im sure that will be safer for me :

More illconceived ideas that probably won't work. This is why we need a national system and not some ad hoc ideas that just confuse the issues. 3 years is by far long enough and why change the colour around every one else has red P's first not green. All of this by the southern states and in QLD you don't even have to show your P's at all. Why isn't there a graduation from one year of green P to second year or even a third colour? Vic has a far better system of banned cars than NSW,whos' system is just a complete F#@KUP. Wheres KEEPLEFT and his band of merry men who allign these rules when you need him.

More to the point, what does towing a trailer have to do with inexperience?

Ok, so you need to drive differently when you're towing, it's common sense. Does getting off your p's magically give you the skills to tow a trailer?

I'm on my p's, don't tow that often, but I know how to when the need arises. Never had any lessons, just had dad give me a few pointers on reversing (which is the only real hard bit). Maybe I should of waited til I was off my p's. Would of got that trailer up the driveway first shot!

Yeah agreed on the BS trailer rule, isn't that in force currently anyway?
I believe towing a trailer now is illegal on P's in Vic?

I've towed trailers on many occassions, car trailers more than the box type and once you master reversing it's a piece of cake, it enhances your driving skills because you pay more attention e.t.c

Wherever they find a way to make more $$$ they try...

Full respect dudes, I haven't forgotten being a P-Plater, but a minority of jerks insist on killing themselves in Turbos and V8s. Apparantly it's worth banning that V8/T stuff to save a few jerks. I don't necessarily agree, but I can see the point. Also, the next jerk in Daddy's Fairlane that eyeballs me at the lights is gonna find he has to explain to his old man how he got a club lock through the windscreen.

I wouldn't be worried about Bracks or Johnny H or policies they set, it's the police specifically the TMU that tend to harass modified vehicles, even if it's reasonably stock rather than general duties police.

They have not contacted me about the tl50 yet.. and nor i think they will. i only have untill November to get my full licence thank god!! i am sick of this crap from our government!!!
