To get rid of the static, you need to tune it into a station. If you've already done that, then check your aerial connections. If the aerial is OK, and it's still the standard Ford unit, try running a new earth wire to the radio.
When I was in Melbourne, I found that the overhead tram wires caused a bit of static and not much you could do about that. Also, if you have a chip, ensure that the body of the chip is insulated from the ECU. |

Is it the factory unit? I have a non-factory one in mine, and I get a lot of static on AM, but it's all good on FM. Mine doesn't rise with engine revs, so a noise suppressor won't help, or so I've been told. It's just static and means the radio is not quite tuned into the station, even though the display shows that it is tuned perfectly. I just live with it, but it can be annoying, especially when trying to listen to the cricket in summer, and footy in winter.

Have you had your car tinted with a metallic film? That could be it.

Do you have metallic window tint? That has been known to cause the radio to go static.

Most likely a bad earth in the car and, if so, should only effect AM stations. If its effecting FM I cant even guess the problem.

Actually, my folks radio stopped working properly because one of the rear speakers was broken (the skin had come away from the casing). Replaced the speaker with a spare I had and the radio was all good. It's worth checking your speakers - the rears are easiest to do, so start with them first.
