Default Diff queries...

hey all..

my car has 3.73 single spin, it also has the half moon bracket which bolts up to the tailshaft.. im guessing this is a 25 spliner?

i might be picking up a 3.23 LSD out of a NC Fairlane, not sure if auto or manual..

preferably i'd like to keep my centre on the car and just swap the LSD gear across, and yes the person who will be doing it does know what they are doing..

all i'd like to know, is whether the NC diff would be 25 spline 2 pinion, or 28 spline 4 pinion...

from what i gather if its a 28 spline, i have to change the tailshaft to a longer one?

if this is the case, are the auto tailshafts the same as the manual tailshafts?

help greatly appreciated..

cya,

santo

auto and manual tailshafts are compatible there is like a couple of mm differance but they both work fine, you won't need a longer one just one with the flange type connection (4 bolts and nuts instead of the 2 saddles and 4 small nuts).

As Damo said the tailshafts are the same.. and the centre is the LSD so you would be changing the centre in your car to the LSD. And think its possible to swap from 2 pinion to 4 ask lukey039 the qld club rep he did it to his EA

the NC diff should go straight in, if you use an EB or later tailshaft, and you may have to get EB II or later lower control arms, as the EA and i believe EB series one have narrower bushes.

you can bend the mounts on the bottom of the diff in to match the EA arms but obviously thats not preferable.

what diff is your 3.7s originally out of? if they are meant for a X series car then i dont think they will fit the NC diff, but if they are from a R31 or something then they should go straight in, but you will have to get them lapped by a professional, to make sure they last as long as possible.

thats all i can think of off the top of my head...

OK! all done.. quite a pain in the *** to do. Setting backlash is a ИИИИИ when you have to machine up your own spacers... other problem i had is the crownwheel having different size bolts to that on the 28 spliner... oh and that my left axle that i got with the diff was bent... but thats all being sorted now!

took it for a test run last night, copped a puncture :(

but the LSD works awesome... lovely double black lines...
