I'm looking at some new wheels and tyres for the Coupe. I'm going for 16" rims looking at 7" for the front and 9" or 10" rears. I have been recommended Sumitomo tyres, model HTRZ. They are one of the very few I can get in 255/50x16. Would go 265/50x16 if I could get them.
Has anyone used these tyres and what do you think of them? Any alternatives? Coupe owners - What's the biggest wheel/tyre combo you have used without lipping your guards? I don't want the fronts to be catching the guards on turns nor do I want the rear sidewalls rubbing while cornering or with back seat passengers. I'm not going to 17" because the cost of tyres jumps a lot for wide sizes and I don't think large diameter rims with liquorice strap tyres particularly suits older cars. I want to stay away from 15" because I'm limited pretty much to BFG T/A's for tyres which are pretty average. To get away from those I need to go for 60 profile bags which I don't particularly like. Look forward to hearing from y'all. Cheers................

I havent used the sumi's as yet. I have herd good reports about them and will be getting them the next time I need tyres for the ute. Shop around for a good price. I was able to get 245 40 18's sumi's for $250 each but didnt have the $$$ at the time so I got some second hand SO3's for a slab....

Have a look at the GT Radials range there might be something there which is reasonably priced for your needs.

I run the HTRZ II on my ute and they are a good trye . They stick like shit to a sandshoe in the dry and are pretty good in the wet . I've done 25000 on them and they still have 30% wear left in them. The only problem they have is with burnouts , as the screach like no other tyre i've ever had .
For the money , they are well worth it. |
