Default Had a long day in the workshop!

This weekend a mate and I decided to fix up his EB (well, it's more of a "bitsa") and replace a few things.

So far we've done the rear main, spigot + thrust bearings and clutch. We've got the inlet/exhaust gaskets, head gasket, veranda seal + rocker-cover gasket to go though. We got the whole head off and cleaned it all up, but having started the whole lot today, it's taking a little longer than we anticipated LOL. We've just gotta put the head back on tomorrow and it should be all good.

But, how much of a pain are the inlet manifold bolts? They were a pain in the ***, but the rest was just time consuming. It's so depressing spending so much time "fixing" up a car, as opposed to making it go faster :(

We've also sussed out that this "EB" (series one?) was converted to manual from auto, has a 3.9, a 6 bolt/3 dowel clutch/flywheel setup (EB2 onwards) an EF 3.45 LSD, an EB2 fairmont non ghia interior with electric windows, climate, digi dash, trip comp, and it just seems to be made up of all different bits. It's silver, lowered, with turboblades, anyone here a previous owner? LOL.

Anyways, pointless thread, but I got bored tonight, and we feel like we've accomplished alot today

Jared

Good stuff Jared, nothing like getting stuck into an e-series, i bet there were a few beers involved somewhere along the line. Is this Russels EB you are talking about ? I find the inlet manifold bolts are quite easy with a 1/4 inch ratchet and some decent extensions, still a bit time consuming though. Good luck with it all, sounds like he has some nice parts in that EB. Bonus!

A few beers? Umm, yeah quite a few haha ;) Yeah man it was Russell's EB, it was drinking 10+ litres of oil per 10,000km and the coolant was runnin dry every 3 days...

Car's running fine now, hope it serves us well for the 3 hour drive back to melbourne. I reckon we saved about $1000 in labour doing all of it ourselves?

You got a new car Damo? I must have missed that one!

Nice one Jared. I find I get so angry sometimes working on the ol' ED, but looking back it's all fun and makes it all worthwhile learning stuff along the way.

Houston, we have a problem :(

Stupid *expletive* car now has oil in the coolant. Head was not in the best condition, had a *possible* hairline crack on cylinder 2 between the water passage and exhaust valve, but both of us needed to get back for work today, so couldnt get the head reco'd. Sigh, another 6 hours, another headgasket next weekend :(
