What do you do with your old mobiles when you're done with them? Are there places that recycle/repair them and if so where does one find them? I couldn't find anything related in the phonebook after a brief search. It seems a waste to just toss them in the bin…

Bit advertising campain by Planet Ark (?) at the moment about phone recycling. Similar to their Christmas card bins. If you take it to any phone retailer, they've got special bins as far as I know.

No joke at all. I dare not put a number on the quantity of phones here (and in the UK I'm guessing) not ROHS compliant.

Vodafone stores recycle them otherwise if you want some cash, sell em on ebay. I've sold quite a few dead or dismantled phones.

Take it one night to a pub or a bar, and then have a really over the top breakup on it. "What do you mean b*#ch! No, go to hell, Im breaking up with you!" Then smash the phone into the ground. The looks on everyone's faces is priceless. Once in a while you will even have someone buy you a round!

drop it under the ride-on lawn mower and watch what happens.
ummm ... actually I did that with a working phone that I actually wanted to keep .... not cool. Oh well ... makes a not so nice noise ... but a shredded mobile phone does look kinda cool

i keep my old ones (well the more recent "old" ones) as backup - my work supplied one was crappy so I'm using one of my old mobile phones and the work one is in the drawer at work.
I also use one of my old bluetooth ones as a backup for all phone numbers/details, on a regular basis I copy my address book to the old phone.

But once your plan runs out and you have a new phone they become useless dont they?
Or can you use sim cards with them?

the sim card is yours to use in whatever phone you want unless the phone is locked into a certain provider

The old phones handed in at phoneshops do get recycled.
Lots of minerals like Gold in em . Gold as you are aware is the best conductor of electricity and is used on lots of electrical terminals .. Such as your cars ECU and Amps
