Default The EB's on GAS!

Yeah that's right, I can finally afford to drive my daily!!

I did all the wiring last weekend, and fitted all the hardware at the same time. Had a few problems with the wiring but with a bit of research it all started working properly. Doug helped fit the tank on Wednesday, and I took it in yesterday to have the line fitted professionally.

Anyways, the guy who fitted was giving me **** and saying he likes to see a good fire. He was pretty surprised when it started first go and only needed slight adjustment to idle nicely.

I'm stoked. I went bush bashing in the Basin yesterday and then went for a drive to Healesville for giggles. Just like the good old days!!!

I'm hoping for 200-250 from a tank. I filled up yesterday ($17 for 38L, wicked!) and have done 80km but it hasn't registered on the gauge. I think it got overfilled somehow and may have damaged the gauge, I'll see how I go. Dodgy gauges are the worst part of gas conversions.

Anyways, I can tick RW and GAS off my list of things to do. Next is paint. Hopefully within a month I'll have that done too.

Sunny,

How much has this cost you all up? I'm very interested in doing this to my ED.. I can fit the tank and everything, but my mechanic says that gas places don't like signing off on a gas installation if they haven't done everything themselves..

Can you point me in the right direction?

Hoiw's the brakes going on it now? Have you bled them?

Thanks

How much it's going to cost depends on if it's a 6 or an 8. The gas kit I fitted cost $600 secondhand. The guy wanted $880 but with some creative bargaining we agreed to $600 cash in a couple of seconds. If you have a six, just go find a good kit at a self serve wrecker and pull it out yourself. Pick-a-Part sell all the under-bonnet stuff, filler line, switch and wiring for around $160.

Then you have to chuck it in and get a line fitted. I recommend getting that done by a professional and while he's there he can check if it's all safe or not. That cost me $200 but the guy gives me mates rates. I don't know what he'd normally charge.

So anyway, my gas job cost $800 all up.

Nah haven't touched them. It's on the list! They definitely don't feel too good.

It's going to get done in this sick colour called Everglade green. It's like the best colour ever man.

I'll try my best. My new job involves working a lot of weekends, and some funky hours so yeah that's why I haven't been coming to stuff that much. That, and I still work at the restaurant occasionally.

No it won't be signed off with a plate. All the wiring and plumbing has to be checked out to see if it's done right, all the mounting has to be to a certain standard etc. etc. I've never bothered to find out how much it costs.

But what if you have an accident, etc, and your gas conversion ends up killing someone or something.. I thought to be legal and legit the gas conversion needed a plate, same as a turbo, to make it legal? Cos this is the only thing keeping me from converting to gas. I want to make sure it's legal..

It'd be harder to "have an accident and kill someone" with gas than petrol. My system has 3 lockoffs, one at the tank, and two at the convertor. As soon as the engine stalls or is shutoff, so are the lock-offs. In other words, if you stack and rupture a line, gas ****es out for a split second, engine stalls, gas is locked off.

Chance of killing someone = 0.

EDIT If you're concerned about insurance, the guy who fitted the line gave me tip for that too. If you tell your insurance co. the system was fitted before 1993 (when compliance was introduced) you'll have no problems with that. That's what I'm going to do.

Well considering my car didn't roll off the production line until 1994, there may be some issues there :S

If you could ask your mate what he reckons would be best for a post 1993 car, that'd be appreciated. thanks

Yeah it's lost a bit of performance, but what most people don't seem to understand is all you have to do is swap a bit of pipe (5 minutes work) flick a switch to petrol (2 seconds) and you have ALL your performance back!

Still goes well when floored but wouldn't keep up with yours I don't think. Only one way to find out ;)

He'd say to do the work and try and get it complied. If you're that worried mate just go and get a brand new kit fitted.
