PHD3
XTRPRO2400D

They should beable to power 4 subs. Just make sure your electrical system is upto the task. I'm not sure about the PHD3, but the XTRPRO is externaly fused at arround 300A.

Here is the rule.
The Amp power RMS must be higher than the sub rated power RMS.

Correct! Due to clipping. Running an amp with less power than the sub is going to cause more damage than running one that is overpowered for its application

what is RMS rating of those amps?
if thats rms, consider two kicker 400.1 mono blocks... should do the job okay...

i dont think any of kicker's mono blocks in the new range run stable to 1ohm..

if you dont wanna spend an arm and a leg look at jaycars 800wrms @ 1 ohm model..

will run 4 4ohm single voice coil subs in parrallel at a 1ohm load at 200wrms each.. depneds once again on the rms rating of the subs.. im not familiar with them...

If thats not enough grunt...

Also worth checking out is Jaycar Response Precision's 1500 WRMS @ 1 OHM D class amp.. They just won Car Audio Australia's Car Subwoofer Amplifier of the year award with it.. I am running two of them and they crank hard.. and at $699.99 rrp they are reasonably price.. minimum of 2 gauge cable required.. if you are interested let me know and i might be able to work out a deal for you..

Cheers..
Nik..

Mmmmmmm I like Deals...

Probably just looking at getting 2x 2channel 1000W amps Just something cheaper for the moment so I have some doof doof when I get the liscence back soon...I don't really want to spend over $200 bucks for each amp...

Might be looking at retail stock and end of line clearnce sales...

But What descent amps do you think I will be able to get...

Oh and in the near future I am going to run 8 12" fusion powerplant subs rated at 1000rms or something...

Have fun fitting 8 12" subs into the boot of an ea and maintaining req'd volume.. 6 was fun enough although i might be putting the other 2 in shortly..

Also it will cost you more than $200 fora 2 channel 1000wrms amp.. but good luck..

Cheers,
Nik

Well to give you an idea.. I have a few amps at work which would do the job..

Option 1
2 x 150wrms @ 4 ohms
1 x 500wrms @ 4 ohms

For 2 of the above.. $400.. special forums price.. Plus cable so prob add another $50 - $80..

I don't really like this setup in you application as it would require you to run the amp at 2 ohms bridged which isn't recommended but i have a few mates that are running them like that.. Advantage to this setup.. you can use the 2 amps later on to run some high powered speakers..

Option 2
1 X 800WRMS @ 1 Ohm..

Only 1 would be required.. $359.. special forums price.. Plus cable so prob add another $50 - $80..

This would be the better solution plus smaller than the other amps.. so easier to mount..

Option 3
1 x 1500wrms @ 1 ohm..

Only 1 would be required.. $629.. special forums price.. Plus cable so prob add another $80- $120..

Almost twice the physical size of the 800wrms model but almost twice the grunt.. Plus later on you can add another of these and strap/link them together for 3000wrms @ 2 ohms..

If you have any questions feel free to contact me on week days at the Jaycar Electronics Albury store.. (02) 6021 6788..

Cheers,
Nik

Allright cheers...Option 2 sounds the best for me at the moment..Do you advise buying another cable kit considering there is one already in the car that only about 8months old...

Oh the only thing I will need help with is installing it my self... Probbaly just a little tuortorial thing later...

Cheers

i just bought an 1800w kenwood mono block amp. its the best thing i have ever bought for my system. its also a two channel so you can run two subs at 4ohm at 4-500wrms. or at 2ohm running 900wrms. its a really good amp and packed with features. i got it from a seller on ebay, brand new for 368.50 delivered. i got quoted 460 for the 1100w from autobarn and thats after my discount.

Mr 4.0
i'm pretty sure you need more power in the amp then in the subs...

If you like the sony's(personaly I don't theres a reason there called explode)
But maybe look at buying another amp the same as the one you have... then running each sub off each amp...

Don't hold me to it I could be wrong but Nik will conferm it...

I'ts been ages since ive looked, but PHD3's could be had from the us for under 1k iirc.

Mr 4.0.. U answered your own question mate..

1400w x 2 = 2800w worth of voice coils
800w x 1 = 800w worth of grunt for the voice coils..

Definately running a bit short.. I am assuming that the PIONEER spec amp is 800w peak as they usually don't rate in rms.. If by chance it is rms.. then peak the amp would be putting out round the 2400w mark.. so still a little short.. But provided you dont wind the wick on the amp up so far that you force it to clip then it will run the 15's fine.. not to their full performance but hey.. i am sure it will prob be loud enough..

6cylEA.. I agree totally with the Sony Implode theory..

Cheers,
Nik

6cylEA..

The 12" Carbon fibre subs are awesome.. it wat i am running and i am really impressed with them.. How many do you need as they more you buy the cheaper it gets.. ;)

Cartz..
The power (wattage) that the subs are rated to gives an indicator of wat sort of power is required to run them at their best level of performance.. Generally speaking MAX or PEAK power is roughly 3 times the RMS rating.. RMS mean Root Mean Squared aka average or continuous power handling.. it is the best way of telling power handling as it is basically wat the sub/speaker can cop continuously.. where as PEAK is wat the manufacturer managed to pump into the speaker for a short period of time in a laboratory while wearing red coloured undies for good measure..

In most situations, provided you match PEAK with PEAK or preferably RMS with RMS and make sure you have more power from the amplifier than wat the speaker requires all should be sweet..

If any one has any questions.. fell free to PM or ask me.. i dont know all and never claim to but i know wat i know..

Cheers,
Nik

How much do you want for it... What actually needs to be done behind the seat... and are they just standard side pannels or special one's??

Custom side panels would be required and behind seat is all cosmetic aswell.. just so it looks neat and stuff.. for the 2 boxes i would prob be looking for $350.. there is $150 in fibreglass and resin.. plus the mdf and of course the most valueable thing.. time.. they are very strong i can stand on them and they dont flex or anything.. 3 12" subs per box.. subs need to be reverse mounted...

Cheers,
Nik

I have 2 of the 100watts X 4 Jaycar Amps, they were both great for around a year, but one decided to go up in smoke (literally) one day, and the other one only 2 channels are running, the other 2 started making a lot of noise - first one went, then a couple of months later, the other... not happy.
I bought a Cadence amp the other day, hopefully this one is a little more reliable.
Believe it or not, I actually purchased one of these amps from Albury Jaycar too :-) haha
