Service Indicator...

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone here knows how to get rid of the service indicator on series 1 AU Fortes? I just bought mine froma dealer and had it serviced but then it clicked over to the built in service interval and the damn thing won't go away!

I'm driving a 1998 AU1 Forte if that helps...

Hold in the little trip meter button, turn accessories on while still holding it, and wait about 15 seconds and its gone.

with the key in the 'on' position but the engine off, you just hold down the tripmeter reset button til it goes away, it takes 10 seconds apparently, but when i did it, it seemed to take forever...this will also reset the tripmeter

True, used to be around 10 seconds. But the last two times I've had to hold in for around 5 minutes.

: Don't know why. Wondering if it's tied in with clocking over 200K.

The service indicator doesnt occur on Series 2/3 does it? i havent seen in appear on mine et.

Series 2/3 AU's are so bullet proof they don't need servicing ( LOL ) hence no need for the service indicator.
Also most of us service at more regular intervals than those recommended by Ford

yeah, both my EL's have done it too, it's about as pointless as the "Fuel Door <--" text on the dash. Like you can't work that out yourself ? A more useful piece of writing would be "Learn how to drive, idiot"

Yeah, but if they would take the time to read the owners manual they will find out how to remove the light themselves

that also depends on if the car came with an owners manual, theres that many used cars out there that havent got them

Very true, many AU's are being sold without one! I find it hard to believe that you could lose it! After all it most usually lives in the glovebox!

I guess some people will do anything to hide their lack of service history etc, etc. Either that or they are mega slack and just lost it. Hard to believe, but I guess it happens! LOL!

Nah dealers probably throw them away so you can't see it was never serviced / home serviced

u have to hold the reset button in for 7 sec (+/- 1 sec) if u hold longer or shorter than that it wont disappear. takes a few goes to get the timing right.

also using the search function may help .. ;)

On early (98) series one AU's this is true. Between 11 and 15 seconds tho from my experience. Later series one's dont seem to have this problem

yer i cant remember the exact seconds any more ... has been way too long ... i got an fetrmarket dash now anyway minus service spanner crap. same it was for ef and els ...

havent dealt with too many AU2/3, was however under the impression that it may be similar

Series 2 & 3 dont have service indicators.

Seems ironic tho, with all the technical advances in vehicles and with all the diagnostic equipment needed to diagnose faults in modern cars, Ford chose an open ended spanner as a service reminder!
