Thumbs up Tickford suspension

G'day there, just a quick question bout my new pride and joy, Got my self a 2001 AUII Ghia which has Tickford plate stating it has Tickford wheels and bodykit, does this mean it hasnt got the suspension cause its definately lower than standard how ever the ride is still smooth as. Is there any way to identify what suspension its got ie by serial numbers or the like, thanks comrades for your imput.

My Ghia was like that when I bought it. A bit lower than standard, slightly firmer and better controlled, but not as low and hard as an XR. I drove a few Ghias before I bought it, and I noticed it was a bit different to the others in this respect.

I have heard mention of a "sports suspension package", but Ford don't seem to have a part number for it. That was one reason why, when my original shocks were stuffed, I went down the complete XR route. The original setup was waaaaaaay more comfortable, though.

I've got XR8 springs on now. The original springs are in the garage. I think they have green stripes up the side. I'll take a picture later.

This is true, do you know what that would be worth fitted, even though I am wrapped with the looks and comfort of the ride, Tickford just sounds better.

: Good on ya fellas, thank for your help. I loved my last car an EBII Ghia 93 model but for handling and comfort the AU is better 10 fold. And I love their areodynamic shape they where ahead of there time in my opinion.Oh both are 5.0L of course.

Hi there, just saw on autoweb that if your AU had the 17" wheel option (which mine has) then it must be fitted with the sports suspension, now my question is sports and tickford suspension 2 different option? Today I went to the local Ford dealer to get a pair of clear indicators and I parked next to a an AU XR8 and the hights (by eye) were identical, one more question that I now have for ya's is did the XR8 have Tickford suspension as standard or was that an option and only had a lower sports suspension as standard. Your factual replys would be greatly appreciated Heres the link for the autoweb site where I got this imformation http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_50674/newsarticle.html

Tickford suspension = sports suspension. I had an AU2 Forte V8 with a Tickford plate for suspension - also had the 17" rims with it. If you bought one, the price included the other anyway. Only non-XRs get the Tickford plate for suspension, as all XRs came with tickford suspension, and the 17s eventually became standard for XRs (though before then, the 17s would have been noted on a Tickford plate in the engine bay).

There was only one height spec for the Tickford/sports suspension - the only difference being that one was fiitted by Tickford, the other may have been a dealer fit option.

Maybe the guy that ordered it, order the 17" wheels, and so they noted that, and then the suspension was fitted by the dealer as part of the package? In my case, I'm gussing the car was ordered with sports suspension (which was on the plate), but it also came with 17's, which I don't remember being on the plate.

Should be in the engine bay near the driver's side shock mount if it's got one. If you dont have any options fitted though, it may not have one. Options for XR's were MOMO Steering Wheel and Shifter, Bodykit and some others that I cant remember!

My Futura wagon has a Tickford plate, for the dual fuel setup!

Does that mean I'm allowed to put some Tickford badges on the exterior of the car? LOL!

*GK puts on heat proof suit in preparation for the flaming that's bound to begin!* LOL!

Yes this is true as I found out on that autoweb link I attatched a few posts ago(last night). Maybe I'm being a bit anal about it but I want mine to read that it has this option, I should ring Ford up and give them the details to find out for sure(which it definately has) and get it stamped on the plate. I must warn ya's I am a bit of a perfectionist, and theres nothin wrong with dat. Off the subject a bit and excuse my ignorence but I'm not up with it, what does (and don't laugh) lol translate too? I see it in a lot of post that I read and can't make sence of it. :

No wuka's hopefully if I don't work I'll give her a full detail and post some pics, last weekend I washed it, followed by a clay, then Mcguiars scratch X, then Mcguiars wet look polish followed by 3 coats of their u bute synthetic wax and boy was she glowing, took a whole day and a half but I enjoyed every minute. Even though Mcguiars not a bad product, proberly the best you'll get from Supercheap or repco I want to try some top shelf stuff that you'll only get from a pro auto paint retailer, but after spending well over $300 on the stuff I bought I'll definately use it all before I splurge out. Oh I also used mother "back to black" on the rubers and black plastics ie wing mirrors etc and that product I definately recomend. P.S I will always take lol as laugh out load, thats for sure. :

Hi there again, well on Tuesday I had the day off and I thought to my self what better thing to do then give the Fairmont a wash and wax and take a few happy snaps to post on the forum as requested so here they are... Bugger that didn't go to plan, any advice as to how I post these pics would be great, posted some before on this same thread (that rust bucket) but now I'm having probemo's. I've reduced the pysical size of them but I think the bytes are too high, could it be? Let us know what you know, on ya.

yeah there is a file size limit, your best bet is to use something like photobucket, its free and you can still post an image link from it, that way you can put more photos

i have a AU I ghia, factory fitted with the 17's, bodykit and sunroof, and im pretty sure its lower than a forte / ghia without the 17's.

my tickford plate also only lists the 17's, bodykit and sunroof
