Default Peter Brock Bathurst 1000?

Should this years Bathurst 1000 be called the 'Peter Brock Bathurst 1000'?

I would think it would be in the race sponsors interests to recognise the greatest Australian motor racing icon in such a way. The sponsors could still put their name in front of it.

The race is still almost a month away, there is still time, even though Bathurst 2006 magazines are already on the news stands, and signs presumably ready.

This would of course be dependent on the Brock family agreeing with it.

What do members think?

I agree the greatest Aus race driver should have his name permantly imprinted on his race track which is bathurst. He owns bathurst and it should be renamed in his memory

I reckon it should be done, as his is the top record holder of race wins at Bathurst isnt he?

I think it would be good, but the sponsors pay huge dollars for naming rights so they get heaps of advertising, so I can't see it happening

This isn't a decision that can be made right now. Everybody is emotional and we all miss him..even those who are not really fans of motorsport (like me), but we all need to settle, discuss this with Peter's family and the head of motorsport in Australia and then see what happens.

The question, "Would Peter Brock want this?" is something that must be brought in. His wishes must be honoured.

I think the gesture is wonderful though and his family will be very much heartened to know that whether a Holden, Ford, Datsun or Malvern Star driver, people admired and adored him for his ability and domination of a sport, especially in the day when driver technology was a speck on a mole of a flea's bottom compared to what we have today in vehicles.

Once again, this is something that needs to be discussed outside of emotion.

I reckon it should, in respect to the King of the Mountain, but unfortunately it won't because SuperCheap Auto paid good money for naming rights sponsorship of the Great Race

Totally agree with you. Although I don't agree with renaming the event its much better to revisit the idea at a later stage.

"Peter Brock Bathust 1000" for the next 9 years should be the race title, as a tribute to this mans ability and accomplishments. If they need to then add Super Cheap or who ever in front of the title.

I voted for yes but 9 yrs....over kill and to tie it after the sponsers naming write I can not see it happening. I tend to agree with those who have suggested to name a part of the track in his honour. Sorry, not being disrespectfull to your sugestion. Any way I am sure they will come up with somthing that will be fitting to the ledgend he was on the day. The other thread about his death today I said I reckon its goiing to be a big turn out for this year now. I am a ford fan but man I respect that man for what he achieved and the way he carried him self along the way. What a ledgend what els can I say.

Cheers
Kevin

He's a great of the sport, huge acheivements etc.... but he's not bigger than the whole event itself. But definately rename a part of the track forever by all means. He looked pretty impressive across the top at skyline, so this would be a fitting place to rename after the King.

For me, I think naming the race the "2006 Mt Panorama Peter Brock memorial race" is enough.

I think Super Cheap Auto should stick its naming rights up its **** just for 1 year, considering that Australian Motor Sport has lost its greatest ever.

Super Cheap also need to realise their responsibility too.

Or if it means so much to them, they can stick Super CHeap Auto in the name somewhere. But I don't like the name "Super CHeap" next to an icon of Australian sport in total!

And keep in mind, I hardly even like Motorsport. But everybody who has owned a television in the past 20 years will know at least some of his feats.

Peter Brock and many other great Australian drivers who are still with us understand the importance and the necessity for sponsors. Telling a company that is enabling the event to even run to stick their sponsorship up somewhere is truly ignorant.

There are better ways to honour Peter Brock than naming the race after him!

i'd like to see Holden, Bridgestone and Mobil sponsor a charity event every year where the monies raised could go to a cause that Brocky supported.. Maybe at the start of the V8 season (before the champoionship) as a final test to intice the big teams to come and iron out any pre-season bugs.. Completely seperate to the circus that is the V8's nowdays, a weekend long race meeting where most classes can get a start..
Group C etc cars would turn out to honor the great man and get some exposure if the super taxis are on the same program

I think they should name it the "SCA Peter Brock 1000" just this year. But also I think they should give him a part of the track as it is permanent.

R.I.P Peter Brock
