Default My Exhaust Mod - Truly Fat Noise

Gday Guys,

Remember my exhaust mod concept for loudness control? *see below*
That thread was 1 whole year ago!
And I finally completed it 2 days ago and added it to my existing 2.5" system...and it sounds unreal!

The Concept (January '06)

As you can see I wanted the rear section to be a simple bolt on-bolt off system using gaskets. This came about because I do long trips every now and then (eg. Sydney and back) where loud noise for hours on end is annoying, but for my day to day cruising wanted the serious rumble i knew my car had to come alive. And the reso certianaly wasn't giving me "tha noize"!.

The Result (January '07)

The Old System (For long trips)
This was my old rear section which had a 2.5" pipe, Resonator muffler, and phat XR Chrome tip. It's now complete with a 2-bolt gasket.

The New System (Fat Rumbler for cruisin')
This is the louder system complete with 2.5" pipe, Hotdog muffler, and phat Twin Chrome dump pipe tip.

As you can see I made the gasket join central so it wasn't so obvious and ugly through the wheel arch.

It took so long to get around to doing this... but boy...was it worth it!

I got it all done for $210 down at Midas on Warragul Rd. The bloke who did it was a champ. even let me hold the system to where i wanted it to sit, while he welded the brackets etc.

And I tell ya, with my wade cam, extractors, 2.5" straight thru system and hi-flo cat it sounds unreal! I'm still stoked about it!
The rumble definately adds to my Fatt plates now ...sounds like a beast!!! :evil3:

cheers, Matt

best
dump-tip
ever.

Suits the EF so well.

Just like the single 3.5" dump-tip on the EA-ED, twin 2" dump-tips on the EF/EL like yours is the best.

Is there much droning at cruising speeds?

What's the bulgy part on the exhaust near the back? It's not a straight through pipe?

Cheers Dez!

Thanks Yagz!
Nah I went with a hotdog to avoid cop Db issues.
Suprisingly no droning, i think the cam helped with that. Although 1st and 2nd are very loud compared to 3rd/4th.

you'll find that the dog will eliminate most of the drone.

Tip look's pimp.

Sounds good Matt (excuse the pun).

Those twin exhaust tips are growing on me. I need to invest in a new tip since my last one fell off :S

Hey matt, love the tips. I purchased similar recently and they have been sitting in the garage. Did you have to mod the bodykit at all to fit them?

Cartz - I was inspired to make the rear section removeable for both keeping my reso system for long drives, and bolting on a new hotdog system to bring out the seriously tough noise! ;)

Kenaz - Ash, once you get the twin dumpers you wont look back!

Age182 - Your far too observent lol

BradensEBxr6 - Thats right mate, god forbid they try catch me. Technically with the hotdog it should be legal.

Stevo - Stevo, they fit nicely with my body kit, no modding needed. There's roughly a pinky fingers gap on each side, kit to tip. Snug aza bug

FordGirl - You'll just have to come to the next cruise :P a sound file just wouldn't do the beastly noise justice!

u shood hear my car! lol. i sorta copied my m8 who has an EL but made it beta. we unbloted the whole exhaust rite behind the cat converter. he left his hanging from the bolts, wich makes a real drone and the bolts rattle around when idling, (and mine eventually fell off) so i removed the gasket and jammed a nail in there and tightened it back up. so now the nail keeps a 2/3mm gap between the cat and the rest of the exhaust. its not 2 drony cos there is only a slight gap, but i luuv it wen i go down a hill at bout 60/70km-h cos slammin it back to third (auto) results in a wikid popping noise that gets ALOt of looks! lol

Top idea bloke, had a similar set up on a HZ ute for the same reasons.
Got the same dump tips on the XR8 too, except they've each got their own pipe

I was referring to the exhaust mod. it's they typical V6 Commodore mod because it sounds fully sik. Another sik mod is silver 'ceptors. Also ofset the front number plate, that's sik.

If you want an awesome exhaust note, get an awesome exhaust.

I've got an awesome exhaust system! ...Far from a fully sik commo mate. why don't you read my sig...i already had a 2.5" straight through redback system...and i wanted to try something different.

Nothing wrong with being proud of my car and what I've done to it!

Very practical mod there EF_Machine, top work. Love the twins as well.

What's wrong with Interceptors? I like 'em, but on Falcons.
