Default Traction Control??

Just wondering if the AUII XR series had traction control? Stupid question probably, but I thought I'd ask

It's apparently near impossible to get an i6 with an LSD spinning in the dry mate, I wouldn't worry...

Maybe so...But I'm flat out getting it to do it in the wet either... Unless I'm heading up my driveway :(

I just want to learn how to control the car a bit better rather than have it step out one night on me... I want to feel it before it happens like I have learnt to with all my other cars..

I'm not into doing burnouts and crap like that... I just want to be able to feel what the car is doing more. It just seems so lifeless

I don't want to clamp brake lines. or try to do wicked burnouts.. Not my scene. I want to control my car before it gets out of shape on a wet road... considering I live in the tropics

Must be where the problem lies with mine...

The few manual ones I have driven, can get sideways no worries...

HUH?

Please correct me if I am wrong but the way I am reading this thread is "You want to turn off your traction control so you can get better control of your vehicle in the wet", however you are also concerned that your car can not spin the rear wheels in the dry let alone the wet.

So what are you asking here? Should my car have more power? Should I be able to spin my rear wheels? Does my car have traction control? What exactly?

He is saying: I don't want people to think I'm a moron so I'll come up with a dodgy excuse to mask that fact that I am indeed a moron.

Well that's how I'm reading it anyway

I was asking if the car has traction control..so that I could turn it off.

I want to turn it off so that I can control my car properly. For me, I feel uneasy at the fact that the car might step out on me unexpectedly..
With all my previous cars I have pushed them to the limit (and beyond in some cases) to learn how the car feels when it is about to slip, and how to correct it and get it back before it goes too far.

If you have traction control it will not step out on you
Hence the name:
Traction.... Control....
It controls your traction, that is what it is there for. Turning it off means you may lose control and spin the rears...

That concludes todays lesson

Just as a side note, does anyone know if you can upgrade to an LSD if you have traction control? I am contemplating adding it to my "to-do list"

In a nut shell.

No your car does not have Traction Control.

However it does have an LSD.

Now depending on the quality of the tyres you are running, the quantity of liquid horse power the skies have dropped on the road and the amount of crap build up on the roads will determine the ability of your car to "step out". Personally I drive to meet the conditions of the weather, the road, the other road users (Try to anyway) and the vehicle I am driving.

I hope this helps with your dilemma.

Wow Twisted EL you can read a manual on how Traction Control works....

I know how it works. That's why I want to turn it off....Moron. Unlike most people, I can control a car without the aid of crappy electronic devices.

Forget it...I'll just turbo the heap of crap. No need to worry about it keeping traction then...and I'll be able to figure out what it is doing.

Tech Trainer.. We live in the tropics. We have crap roads, covered in oil..and rain for half the year...and potholes everywhere. It is essential to know the car inside and out. I also drive to suit the conditions...it's the other drivers I'm worried about. I've had too many close calls, and now that I have 2 daughters in the car, it is more important than anything to figure the car out.

And for those who answered my original question about the traction control.. Thank you.

Cut out the name calling please, either discuss the subject at hand or do not bother to post. It's quite simple.

Yeah I drive the roads of FNQ quite often as a part of my job and yes there some people up there who appear they can not think and breathe at the same time but again make sure you have some good rubber. By the sound of it you are around Tully or Innisfail area.

I had some Falkens on my XR when I first bought it and it was a pig in the dry and a nightmare in the wet.

Get someone who knows what they are doing to do a wheel alignment (all 4 if IRS) and put some good rubber on it. Then start to sus the thing out.

If your worried about the car stepping out unexpectedly, I don't think traction control would be your issue. It could be you lsd, when going around corners second wheel kicks in at the wrong time. But I've never heard this issue related to traction control

i feel my au loves to go side ways in the wet while turning, and traction control only makes it worse, stupid thing stops fuel getting to the engine when accelerating more to get the car straight again!!!

Can you control a car better than, say, Peter Brock? Even he got caught out on a slippery road. Better off driving to conditions so that you live long enough to tell your grandkids what traction control was (they will know what hover control is, but will you???).

Accelerating more does not get the car straight - steering does that, and traction control cuts power to allow the cars momentum to shift to enable steering control to be regained. Next you'll be saying that ABS is stupid too - if so, brake a bit earlier and it doesn't activate.

I was thinking you were talking about your lsd, now I'm thinking you need a new fuel pump.

Put some stockos on the back, something with a width of a 205s tyre or smaller and I'll gaurantee if you plan your foot on the accelerator in the wet it will spin the tyres in a AU falcon, single spinner or LSD. Even easier if your going around a corner....

Just a friendly warning
I have found wet slippery conditions & LSDs to be a little unpredictable
Suggest taking it out to a track on a wet day to help you find the limits safely
Best of luck

Arent lsd more predictable than a single spinner? With an lsd you know its going to spin both wheels, and I find that more predictable then a single spinner...
