Default TV capture Card

Iv decided to get a tv capture card as the tv in the room is just too big. I decided on leadtek but can't decide which one to get here are the following options;

This is the cheapo at $48.
http://www.leadtek.com/multimedia/wi...000xprm_1.html
http://www.leadtek.com/multimedia/wi...000xprm_2.html

The more expensive at $85

What would you guys recommend, I started reading the specifications but cant make much sense of them. I dont want to be buying the more expensive just to find all I have paid for is software. Also im not interested in FM. I don't think either of these can access digital networks yet?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had a pinnacle one once and it didnt seem to be as good as a mates leadtek. Though im sure it would of had something to do with the aerial as well.

Which one of the tv2000 xp cards do you have?

I just cant tell between the two what exactly im getting for that extra $37 besides software and fm.

deluxe edition.
It was about $80 and did the job. I only wanted it to convert VHS to digital.

You can get fairly decent digital tv cards for <$150.... work pretty well.. I believe mines a fusion model??? coupled with windows mce and webscheduler, it makes a great combination

Edit: its a VisionPlus ... near the same thing :P
VisionPlus Digital Terrestrial HDTV PCI Tv Tuner with Remote AKA Twinhan DTV ter $149.00

Both The Maddestman and I have Leadtek Winfast DV2000's in our PC's. We got them to convert VHS to DVD also and so far they've worked brilliantly. I get perfect reception for both TV and radio. They work well for recording free to air or anything that has SVideo or composite video as an output too.
I don't know why I didn't get one sooner.

So the card puts out HDTV? Seems alot cheaper then getting a set top box if it does.

I was worried about spending too much money and finding that I never used it my last card i never used though I had a tv at the time.

Now im confused as to what to get.

If all you want to do is watch TV, then the cheapest one will do the job, and will do a good job.

One question, what sort of an aerial will you be plugging into it?

Roof aerial. Once I had to plug into the bunny ears and the tv output was terrible. I had to constantly adjust them to get any sort of receiption.

Im guessing hte cheapest one will allow you to convert vhs to mpeg or xvid as well.

i'm using a visionplus digital card... i cant remember what type i dont really use it very often. after watching a channel for a while it tends to get a bit funny... dont ask me why my computer should be able to handle it fine. and with capturing tv i havn't found it very useful because the files it save are huge and don't play back very well.. and i don't know how to compress it into smaller files.

I just got a Fusion Plus HDTV and Installed Media Portal for the Tivo type setup. Pictures great, have not got the tv guide working right yet.

Eg you can type motor sport into the recorder and it records all shows that have the words motor sport in the description.

I would suggest the Compro, because I use it and ComproPVR2 is pretty good.

Is TV in Aus broadcast in High Def?

Hay guys is the winfast tv expert digital, I cant tell if its HDTV its very confusing the way they write it up though they state;

'It is the smartest and most effective way of turning your PC into a high definition TV and FM entertainment center.'

'Moreover, you are able to access rich variety of information at no cost and without an Internet connection through today's data broadcast technology!'

It sounds like it is though im not sure :?

Nope, they are referring to teletext when they talk about "today's data broadcast technology", that card is standard analog TV, not HDTV.

After having several you really can't go past the Fusion HDTV capture cards - I capture all the V8 SC action to the PC as it's far easier to edit than the DVD recorder in the lounge room and the quality is as good as the DSTB. It has a remote, recording scheduler and inputs for other devices (a VCR in my case). If you can afford the extra $30 get the Plus version too.

Cheers
Russ

http://www.umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=2

Ended up with this one a $150 digital card. I can say it was well worth the extra money the quality is excellent on all channels. Im happiy i avoided the analog ones my mate showed me his old one and it was all fuzzy and rough picture. He also got the same card as me and the tv picture was excellent.

I suggest to anyone to put out the extra money and go digital.

The only issues I find is when you skip to the next channel takes around 5 seconds to buffer the channel up. Also the audio/video on one abc sation didnt match though all other stations seem fine.
