I would definitly go the xr8. Its a Manual! these things make power so easily. You will be eating commodores and looking good doing it. Its got everything a fairmont does except climate control.

They are asking too much for the XR though, haggle $2k at least.

Pazza,
That's a series 1 Ghia V's a series 3 XR....Not a good comparison. I would keep away from anything series 1 if you can help it. It does have low k's and the 17" Tickford wheels (Should have the Tickford suspension also) but it is overpriced. Redbook says it should be around 9 to 11k private sale, I would not pay more then 13k for it at the dealer. The XR looks great. Out of these 2 it would be a hands down win for the XR. If it was a series 3 XR V's a series 3 Mont Ghia I would choose the Mont. As a few people have said, drive both and decide from their. Everyone has their personal opinions, I love the Mont's others love the XR's. Take the advise, weigh it all up, then decide for yourself. It's your money and your car. No matter what Pazza, drive both cars before deciding, take your time and don't rush into anything, there is heaps of Mont Ghias and XR's available. Goodluck |

XR is definitely the choice here.
Manual Series III XR8 220's are almost as rare as T Series. But as Norton said do a bit of homework regarding what is really best suited to your requirements.

If you got that XR for around 17-18, it would be an absolute steal. It's got almost every option ticked. Series 1 I wouldn't even bother with, AU3 Ghia with the V8, MOMO wheel, Leather and Kit would be my choice if I was looking for one.

The points are highlighted. - Series 1 This is a Series 2 This is a Series 3 It's a small thing but it is the easiest way to tell a Series 1 from a 2 or 3. |

Just seen that XR8 in a car yard on Whitehorse Road, and I muct say it looks very clean indeed Pazza.
Even though I have a Ghia, I'd go the S3 XR over the S1 Ghia any day... Just my opinion though, after having owned a Ghia maybe I'm due a change too! |

Get the XR, it looks nice.. thats a stupid price for an AU fairmont. You'd buy a BA fairmont for that!

went n test drove the S3 today went good, but up close the body needs a lil care needed. so i walked away empty handed. clean inside, has been previosuly hit in the rear. few scratches here n thenre n paint starting to crack on front bumper working its way onto the bonnet above the right head light.
