Ok, rang CGU as I heard they have pretty good deals re insuring my car.
I had a shock two weeks ago when I had an accident.. long story behind it but I was not insured and have accepted that I will be responsible for paying the person back (it was my fault) Well appears that my Ford ED has some modification on it, some sports air filter? I bought this car from my nephew two years ago and noticed this strange looking filter. It's small and triangular shaped... For that filter, they won't insure my car TPO. Wow, strict eh? They said that even if it enhanced the performance by 1% it's still a performance enhancer and hence won't insure it tpo (their tpo would have covered me for $5000 damage if another car hit me and it wasn't my fault) Can anyone tell me what kind of filter it would be? Or do I need to lift the bonnet and check for any numbers? Am I doomed to not be able to insure my car because of my accident and because of this filter? I am 44, have never had an accident before...

It sounds like an exposed "pod filter." You can go to a wreckers or check the for sale forums and buy a factory airbox and a new paper filter. It shouldn't cost you more than $30.

Has your nephew still got the original?
I see you live in Freo so if no luck with your nephew check the motoring section of the Sunday Times at the back theres a section on wrecking. Have a look in there to see if someones wrecking an ED or similar and get the airbox from them, also try Quokka, then try some wreckers in your area. Good luck.

The filter is not performance enhancing, it is to improve fuel economy and improve filtration. Thats all they need to know and thats what i would tell them. It is a servicable item that is part of maintenance and reduces maintenance costs. This is absolute bull CCrapp.
